This really sucks for the players. I don't know how they could get through this once positive tests popped up, but, this is such an iconic tournament for the players, many of which have had a lot of their key development years screwed up by the pandemic.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but, to me, the most viable mitigation measure they could have is making each country bring a taxi squad. But, I think ultimately, the situation unfolded too quickly before the tournament to really do anything meaningful to protect the tournament.

As a viewer, I would have loved some hockey to watch right now, but, not being able to watch a bunch of teenagers play hockey seems far from the biggest problem these days.

starting to wonder myself each day passes i am leaning more and more to not getting booster in feb lol

Sigh. I see basic science is not being taught any more.

Most shots require boosters. Tetanus, every 10 years. MMR, every 10 years. Chicken pox, if you didn't get it as a kid, every 10 years. This is normal.

The only difference here is the boosters will come more frequently because it is a new virus that our bodies have never even seen.

Was the decision mostly made on economic considerations? Fewer games means less eyeballs = less advertising revenue.

Obviously I feel bad for all the fellow fans out there, but the real pain will be felt from the players.

Every one of them ditched their junior team for 2-3 weeks to go to f***ing Red Deer of all places to play 1 or 2 games if they were lucky. None of them saw their families for Christmas, and each of them return with a big fat handful of nothing.

.

It's a disgrace.

Why were teams allowed to carry extra players then? Wasn’t it to cover for the odd positive case here and there?

there is enough blame to go around. Alberta for not setting up a bubble for the tournament and IIHF for implementing such ridiculous protocols
How is it on the province of Alberta to set up the bubble? Seems like something that the IIHF would be in charge of, logistically speaking.

We have to account for the fact that a large percentage of people struggled/got pushed through the public education/baby sitting system so they can struggle with stuff like this.
