What was the point of the IIHF mandating players to be in Red Deer by Dec 15th to quarantine for 48 hours, only to place the teams into hotels with the general public?

Covid has escalated to a much worse level in terms of number of cases since most of the planning was done, but there should’ve been a better infrastructure in place for the worst case scenario. They should have always been operating under the premise that it would be this bad. Poorly planned, and what a shame. Probably my favorite part of the year.

Obviously I feel bad for all the fellow fans out there, but the real pain will be felt from the players.

Every one of them ditched their junior team for 2-3 weeks to go to f***ing Red Deer of all places to play 1 or 2 games if they were lucky. None of them saw their families for Christmas, and each of them return with a big fat handful of nothing.

And it doesn't end there. 90% of these players probably have to quarantine on return to their own country, so their goes another 2 weeks

It's a disgrace.
