Knowing that variant exist is one thing. Predicting that a new variant on a still pretty recent and misunderstood virus will come up and and derail everything, while making vaccination a little less efficient, is more in the Nostradamus ballpark which I doubt any scientific would engage himself into.

That’s exactly my point and what my second question was. If they didn’t know for sure, why not say that? Why lead people on and act like vaccines are the key to freedom when that isn’t the case at all? The goalposts keep moving and people are getting sick of it and that’s the doing of governments and the medical community. They both have completely failed at handling this.

I understand. Doesn’t change my point though. If the disease can still spread like crazy amongst the vaccinated and still lead hospitalize large amounts how is the vaccine going to end the pandemic.

The newer variants are much less likely to lead to hospitalizations among vaccinated individuals. Each new wave looks to be more infectious (easier to spread) but less deadly to counteract the effect of vaccines. It is theorized that this will eventually lead to become much less harmful, but it is not there yet.

That is a possible general trend. We might also get unlucky and get a highly deadly/highly transmissible variant. Lets not find out. Limit the number of variants by limiting transmission.

Counting dead people will always look bad with or without a virus. No one I know knows anyone that has died from Covid and that is statistically improbable if not impossible if you listen to media and politicians.

.5% is bad, but not bad enough to warrant lockdowns. I get that we were cautious in the very beginning, but with what we know today… it doesn’t make any sense anymore.

Playing the "no one I know" card is dubious at best to downplay the severity of Covid. That's like me saying what's the big deal about drinking and driving? No one I know has been killed by a drunk driver.

There is a vaccine for polio.
Meaning if you get vaccinated you can't get polio.
We do not have that for covid.
We have booster shots ...... 1st 2nd or 3rd .

Just saying

That’s not the same thing and I’m not having a discussion about it. I live in Sweden where people are very pro vaccines (I am too) and have been for decades.

I get why people would be hesitant to take a vaccine that has been rushed, especially after the swine flu vaccine that caused a lot of people a lot of problems.

Swine flu was way deadlier than Covid and there was little to no panic as i recall it.

A general note on the Worldometers estimate of 5.4M deaths that people keep referring to ITT : many countries have very unreliable monitoring and/or reporting (India and China, for different reasons are two examples). That's almost certainly a large underestimate of the actual death toll.

They are actually having this in a place called Red Deer? Canada has some of the weirdest town names in the world.

makes sense with the revenue

- 50% capacity cuts from the government
- max attendance for one game was 4,000 people
- No Food or beverage allowed (that killed their bottom line apparently)
- 65% of the WJC game packages bought were returned
- averaged about 1,900 per game

this thing was destined to lose money

The problem is with people who think that they are somehow goal posts instead of sliding rules based on the everchanging volume of information.

Nothing here is certain yet, there is no endgame, this is an ongoing process that requires time to understand and handle.

I keep reading/hearing all this nonsense about "choice". This ISN'T a personal issue and choice is the last thing to be included in the process. Frankly nothing in our lifetime has revealed more about humanity than this disease, and its shocking just how flat out ignorant so many people are of things that extend beyond their individual lives.

Canada has seriously embarrassed both themselves and the sport of hockey over the last 2 years. Will set the sport back a decade. How can they be expected to be taken seriously and compete with other US sports leagues when they can’t even have their prospect tournament, compete in the Olympics, or even f***ing have home games going into 2022 for a few teams?
Wow you are an embarrassment of a mod just quit and do the world a favour

That is a stupid argument as it is complete anecdotal. I know 7 people personally who died, three in my family. Does that make it more deadly?

Extrapolated over the population of the earth .5% is 40 million or twice the number of dead from WW1. Minimising that makes you come off as a bit of a bad person.
comparing death to Covid and WW1 is a terrible comparison..like I said, most of these deaths are the old, obese and immunocomprimised...not young healthy men fighting for their country

Arent they all human beings? Is one life more important than the other just because they are old or overweight?
