I wanted another inside the park grand slam
RBIs are a terrible way to evaluate how good a hitter someone is.
And yes, by rate:
Biggio: 1 HR per 70 PA, 1 2B per ~12 PA
Espinal: 1 HR per 55 PA, 1 2B per ~17 PA
Ok, so Espinal is better by batting average, strikeout rate and HR rate. Biggio is better by doubles rate, OBP, OPS, wRC+, walk rate, ISO, ground ball rate, hard contact rate...
It's not a huge difference overall, mind you, but it's significant in some aspects and overall Biggio's performance is sufficient to warrant him getting relatively regular playing time. Especially given that Espinal's performance is largely buoyed by his torrid start followed by much more inconsistent performance in the last couple months.
Thats fair.
My view on espinal outside of just stats, is he exceeded expectations first half, it was his job to lose, rightly or wrongly made the all star team, for some reason the umps then were raking him over the coals with bad calls starting in that yankees series for some reason. Complete highway robbery calls that were not strikes but were called on him and that dragged on for weeks.
Around that time charlie got fired and Biggio started taking over more playing time. But when I seen espinal get more more opportunity and playing time outside the odd one off start lately, I thought he was playing well, getting some big hits, I just have not seen enough from biggio where I felt he stole the job from espinal in the first place and should get priority like schneider has been giving biggio.
But some may feel different.
Heck of a play Strip and Vladdy I guess but that throw seemed a bit off.

If I’m the Red Sox, I’m doing a quick rebuild or a retool.
