At least this management group has picked a direction and is going at it hard. If it fails spectacularly we will know it sooner than later as opposed to Bergevin's meandering "hold on to your job" approach for a decade. I'm gonna be positive over Slaf and Dach as there's plenty of potential there for something awesome, and with a management group that really wants to develop players it has a better chance than working out in years prior.

Going to miss Romanov's big hits, but he wasn't a must keep tbh. This Dach addition really pits the Slaf pick into perspective.
Well the 1OA pick makes more sense now. If Dach can stay healthy, he can be better than anyone they could've picked in 13th spot. Big "if" though....

Gotta feel for the kid (Wright). Thought it was the biggest night of his life. It's turning into a nightmare for him.
A nightmare is not being picked 4 or 5 in the NHL draft? You get picked 6th, It is a ticket of riches. Jesus. There are real people out there with nightmares. Shane Wright is not one of them.

Why not wait to see whos available at 13 before trading for Dach

Hughes explained that they had a trade for Kirby Dach first with Chigago, but the Blackhawks wanted to a higher pick for Dach. So they then turned to the Isles to make a deal for their 13th pick. And the cost to get the 13th was Romanov.

The Dach trade makes up for the Slaf pick. I’ll admit I haven’t watched him much as a pro, but if he was in this draft he goes ahead of Cooley and Gauthier for sure.
And Chicago traded him away ahead of a rebuild for pennies on the dollar......🤔

... I kinda like what they did tbh.

My biggest gripe about taking Slaf first overall was the prospect of not getting a top 6 center in this draft. With the Dach trade, that makes the Slaf pick look a lot better to me. I loved Dach in his draft year and am still a big believer in him. If he can develop into a 2C, then our top 6 is going to be fire.

As for Romanov... meh. Everyone seemed to be a much bigger fan of his then me. He's never going to be a top pairing guy. It was clear the offensive ability just isn't there. Sucks to lose him but more excited about the idea of having Dach.

They for the most part have a strong idea who all the teams are picking. It's how Bobby Mc sat at his cottage last year and tweeted the entire top 20 from his cottage before the picks. Plus I'm sure other teams were interested in Dach. He's only 21 years old.

This could be one the worst day in the history of the team.
They said they wanted skills and speed then they get Dach and Slaf??

I thought dach was heading into bust territory before the trade and i see slaf as a 50 point winger so i see this day as terrible

Dach was playing with kane at some moments and couldnt produce so welcome on our 3rd line where he will do about 30 points next year

High risk / middle reward

They want to diversify our attack. Suzuki-Caufield is mostly transition. If Dach & Slafkovsky can find chemistry that brings a MUCH different look.
