WJC: 2022 Team USA Roster Talk

Big kid, sure he has a chance...a lot of players right next to each other on who can make the team. Plenty of players will rise and fall some in the fall as well..

Knies has been the best of the Gopher trio of forwards who could make the team this year in Knies/Lucius/Broz. I think he's going to be an easy choice.

After a rough freshman year, Blake Biondi is turning it on for UMD, currently their leading scorer. Probably too little too late, but will be interesting to keep an eye on.

Watching Michigan play, I don’t know how Truscott doesn’t make the team. He and Hughes are great together and should stay paired up come the WJC.

Scott Morrow having a big start to his freshman season at UMass. He's probably putting Eamon Powell in his rear view mirror for an RHD roster spot. UND it's going to regret losing him.

Pretty nice bonus for this year's team, Perrault is in his second year in the AHL and producing, could be very valuable playing against U20 age group. Pretty sure he was going to make team Canada, so this isn't just like getting leftovers that couldn't crack Canada.

Maybe. I think that lack of assurance seems to have fueled his decision. USA Hockey probably promised him a spot.

He's super skilled but from my viewings he is a total puck hog. But this was back in the Q I haven't seen him in San Diego.

I imagine it has more to do with his brother joining the NTDP than anything else. It's always interesting how certain players just never seem to gain positive standing with national team programs. Nice to have him in the fold!

I doubt that had anything to do with it. I think he just got a poor evaluation from the U17 tournament + a few other camps along the way that Hockey Canada told him that he's be better off pursuing other options for international tournaments. I had him included on my Team Canada roster...but good for him he has other options.

If he scores the gold medal goal vs. Team Canada...that will be fun times around these parts.

If this was the primary driver why wouldn't he have pursued this before?

How would he have known to pursue it earlier? I doubt that anybody at Hockey Canada sat down with him after U17 or or U18 camps and shared internal evaluations with him. This has probably only come up as an issue after this past summer and is being pursued by the player and his reps. dad, agent etc.

I highly doubt Hockey Canada would tell him to pursue other options even if he's not in their immediate plans.

you're underestimating the smugness and arrogance of certain Hockey Canada people.

You're speculating and doing a pretty bad job of it.

Hockey Canada has never really been a fan of Perreault. He's been on the outside looking in and to them it's probably not that big a loss that he's now going to take advantage of his dual-citizenship and suit up for the U.S.

Perreault is a good add for the US, especially since this roster doesn’t have quiet the same quantity of elite scorers as last years
A theoretical line like Coronato-Bordeleau-Perreault could give even Canada fits

Anyone have an early projected lineup:

I don't follow college as much as the CHL but here's my take:

Coronato-Beniers-Samoskevich
Pastujov-Bordeleau-Perreault
Knies-Lucius-Smilanic
Tuch-Boucher-Doan

Sanderson-Faber
Kleven-Hughes
Kaiser-Powell

Commesso/Tynan

Tough start to the season for Commesso, only 3 wins in 9 starts, save pct at 89%, allowing 3+ goals a game. Maybe a change of scenery helps him and he finds his groove at the WJC.

In his few games this year Lucius hasn't looked good enough to make this team in the kind of role he can fit. Of course he will because of the NTDP connection and draft status, but just calling that out that I would not be shocked if he didn't make it.
