WJC: 2022 Team USA Roster Talk

Canada being a wuss country and not participating. WJSS is still entertaining hockey in the middle of the summer. I'll still watch.

Any idea when the U.S. WJC eval camp roster is going to be announced? Should be soon. Interested to see if Jacob Perreault is on there....

No Perreault is a bummer. Door isn't completely shut yet but I doubt he opens it.

I really don't understand the Cooley selection. I get it in that he's the type that USAH loves but he struggled at the U18s in a way that shouldn't give them confidence he's ready for an even bigger jump.

The only names I'm surprised to not see there are Ty Gallagher and Brent Johnson.

Great to see Tynan named. Hopefully he's fully healed from that gruesome injury.

Is Perreault for sure eligible?

What would Cole Caufield think?
He'd think, "I should have back checked on Tampa's first goal instead of dogging it."

Then he'd think, "As a first year player, I should not have done a fly-by on Tampa's short handed attempt with 4 minutes left in the 1st period."

Then he'd think, "I'm responsible for Tampa's 3rd goal. First I gave it away, then I stood around while they scored."

Finally he'd think. "I hate being a Minus 3 and my giveaways have finally come back to haunt the team."

Lol. As expected.

This is what I'd have

Samoskevich-Beniers-Coronato
Broz-Bordeleau-Knies
Pastujov-Smilanic-Lucius
Berard-Slaggert-Boucher
Savage

Sanderson-Powell
Kleven-Faber
Kaiser-Hughes

Commesso
Tynan
Mbereko

Matt Coronato-Thomas Bordeleau-Mackie Samoskevich
Tristan Broz-Matt Beniers-Chaz Lucius
Luke Tuch-Ty Smilanic-Sasha Pastujov

Wyatt Kaiser-Luke Hughes
Tyler Kleven-Eamon Powell

Drew Commesso
Tucker Tynan
Kaidan Mbereko

That first line is too small. Switch the centers on the first two lines. And I prefer Coronato on the right and Samoskevich on the left. Samoskevich is great at cutting to the inside of the ice, while Coronato is more of a player who shoots off the pass and drifts in a subtle way around the zone without the puck in the offensive zone. I’d also pick Knies over Tuch.

The rest is pretty close to what I think it’ll be. Sanderson played with Powell and Kleven with Faber at the NTDP, so I'd probably put those guys on the same pairs. I think we might pick someone like Savage instead of Duke to add some more defense/grit. We have guys on that fourth line that can move up. We don’t have guys that can play a shutdown/PK role. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Boucher makes it in the last few forward spots because he brings a different element.

I'm a Rangers fan, but if Leaman is playing Berard on the first line, I will be suggesting its undeserved and its because he plays for him at Providence. Berard is a bottom 6 player. He probably should be on the fourth line, and any higher than the third line is too high. Knies isn't a fourth liner type. I think Tynan is a lot more likely than Campbell, and Tynan should be the second goalie. Peterson over Boucher/Doan makes no sense either. And you might as well play Coronato and Samoskevich on the same line, considering they've some on the same line last season, and some on the same PP. Also, Sanderson with Powell and Kleven with Faber. They have a lot of familiarity playing together.

Would’ve liked to see more 04 USNTDPs get the invite. That class is loaded.

Hanas added in place of Beniers, who I imagine will be missing camp to have more time to enjoy the NHL draft experience as a high pick since the draft starts on the 23rd and this camp starts on the 24th.

Beniers also had an injury at the Mens Worlds so probably hasn't been skating. He is a lock anyways.

Perreault wasn't named or apparently even invited to the Canadian camp which was just released today. Maybe he's just decided he's done with that level of competition?
