WJC: 2022 Team Finland roster talk

Just stat watching, but it seems both goaltenders Meriläinen and Jatkola played good in their practice games.
Hopefully Finland will not be missing Blomqvist.
He will be. I hope Meriläinen can do it, if he can't it's not his fault it's on Pennanen.

Trying to find news on Lambert's injury. Any update from Finland media? I saw he missed both prelim games due to *injury*

A lot of good teams this year with Slovakia etc but i´m going to call it, everything but gold should be a disappointment for this team.

If it´s the goalies and defence that lacks i´ll hold Pennanen responsible for his selections. He has a top 6-9 that can produce against every opponent, even Canada. Or actually, we should have four really good lines.
The selection of goalies are highly questionable and i´m not sure Nurmi has good enough defence to let Niemelä shine in the offense as he is capable of.
Actually not a fan of Nurmi after seeing two games before, but let´s hope he shuts my mouth and proves me wrong.

Let´s see how the goalies will perform but with players like Niemelä, Räty, Kemell, Lambert, Koivunen, Hirvonen and a mean fourth line etc? I expect a medal for sure.

Finland-Canada final would be awesome and I don't expect Canada to not reach final this time. So in my mind it's better not to face Canada before the finals in the playoffs. After seeing Finland's final roster and Pennanen as the head coach, I think it's possible to get that final match up. USA and Sweden will be big problems as usual though.
The only problem with facing Canada in the finals is how toxic some of the Canadian posters get if Canada loses

Finns can be unbearable too which probably triggers them even more but atleast we accept our losses and fight eachother instead

I was thinking of starting a Most Obnoxious Fanbase thread in this forum, but thought better of it.

Much like the competition on the ice, there would be 4 teams with a realistic chance at gold.

Nice to see Jurmo make the team and apparently been showing well.
I guess the skating is what's impressing the staff

Most teams have been downgraded, players opting out (Getting ready for NHL-camps etc) Slovakia is missing pretty much all the top players.
Yeah, but still. I would consider Finland as one of the favorites with Canada no matter what. I know Germany could have been a lot better as well.

If Pennanen cant get results with this offense it's on him. Because he's made some strange decisions and let's be honest here, players like Räty and Niemelä should be special at this level no matter what.
The latter have been one of the best two times already. Räty on the other hand has some experience as well and looked really promising in the Isles camp and at the summer showcase.

These are our two big stars in my opinion. Which can let talents like Kemell, Koivunen and Lambert get less pressure which could be good for them.
Hirvonen is another guy who doesn't get any limelight but he should be a trustful player at this level, both offensively and defensively.
So yeah, i'm putting the pressure on Pennanen because i'm sure Jalonen would win the gold with this roster.

What TV channels are showing Finland's games in Finland? On a quick glance it didn't seem like YLE is showing them.

Tv5 and discovery

Ty.

Canada will have an advantage in the Finland game with the scheduling. They did the classic host tournament trick to give harder schedule for their main rival in the group. When Finland plays against Slovakia, the day after that Finland will play against Canada. So back to back games. Canada will rest that day when Finland plays against Slovakia, so Canada won't have back to back games at that point. Can't complain too much though as Finland did the same to some top teams in their group in the men's WHC tournament last spring.

Any chance I can get an idea of where Jurmo is going to play, if he's not the 7/8th dman? Is he expected to be a scratch for most of the tournament?

It's quite insane. During WHC when Finns took the lead in the final, some Canadian posters said stuff like "You are begging to join NATO, you are not relevant, you are 7th best hockey nation at best" and stuff like that. It's honestly a lose lose situation to play against Canada in any relevant games.

"We are missing player x and x we would've won" or if they win "Lmao we won without player x and x this is too ez". Yes Finns can be unbearable but we have some gentleman's code atleast, to some Canadians nothing is sacred if they lose.

Depends if they are on going to use Heimosalmi on the left side(he is right handed)

So either:

Nurmi-Niemelä
Viro-Rafkin
Jurmo-Puutio
Rajaniemi-Heimosalmi

Or

Nurmi-Niemelä
Heimosalmi-Puutio
Viro-Rafkin
Rajaniemi-Jurmo

If Heimosalmi plays on the right side Jurmo should get regular minutes, if not, then his minutes are likely be limited.

So, which player(s) is everybody most excited to see and why? For me, definitely Räty. I expect him to have a great tournament.

I guess I'm excited for Kemell because Veikkaus is offering 15.0 odds for Kemell to win the most goals scored. I think that they are giving too big odds for it. In other words Veikkaus doesn't believe in Kemell's chances to win that. If Kemell is on, then he is on and it will be hard to take that scoring title from him. Either way, it's too good odds to pass, so I'll be making some bets based on that. It does require for Finland to go far as a team though so there will be maximum amount of games (more games = more goals) and the practice games' results are pointing in that way that Finland would indeed go far.

Veikkaus also doesn't believe too much in Laine (75.0 are crazy good odds when speaking of Laine) winning NHL's goal scoring title so I'm combining that bet with the Kemell bet. With Gaudreu it should be fireworks. It only takes some injuries from Matthews to open the door for others to win the scoring title. So Laine+Kemell in same bet is a good one just for the sake of the odds, even if it doesn't hit I feel like those are some winning bets in the long run.
