Are you guys saying mctavish is a slow skater or not good skater ? I’m reading different opinions

Some people here saying he is a good fast skater others saying slow

Some people saying mctavish is like Mathews others like tzachuk others like Paveski. Which one is mctavish like ? Opinions all over the place

I mean it depends on who you compare him with. The guy was drafted 3rd overall and is expected to log top6 minutes so that's the type of players I use for comparison when I say his skating is poor.
If you are comparing him to them I suppose yeah, but when someone says a person is a poor skater they are usually implying poor skater across the board not against his draft position peers. Maybe if it had of been explained that way I would have agreed.

But poor skater period? hmm.........I wouldn't say that at all.

Joe Pavelski is the lone really good comparison. Pretty unique type of player but he's literally a slightly bigger left shooting Pavelski. Slow skating and relatively poor playmakers but superb hands, elite goal scorers, own the slot, can play both C and W.

Can and will play both but much like Pavelski he's probably the slightly better winger just because he's gonna get more scoring opportunities and more slot time on the wing.

No.

He's very engaged. One of the most impressive things about him is that he rarely takes a shift off. Also does win most of the battles. He's not a big or volume hitter but he's very hard to move.

Couple of things wrong with this:

McTavish isn't a bad skater, and he's not Pavelski-level slow by any means. Also, Pavelski isn't a poor playmaker at all. He's extremely smart and is an very underrated playmaker.

Well i asked what type of mactavish would be, and got conflicting opinions lol. He seems like a guy who is shoot first goal scoring center who plays wing and can hit from time to time

I don't think McTavish's skating is any better than Pavelski's and when I say that Pavelski's playmaking is poor then again I'm comparing him to other top6 Centers. Of course if you compare him with your average NHLer it's not.

Top 20 in assists this year amongst forwards. Top 10 amongst centers, but he actually played RW a lot of this year which would make him top 6 amongst RWers. Once again, very underrated even amongst top 6 centers/forwards. He's a big reason Hintz/Robertson scored as many goals as they did

That game should be useful for Canada, as you aren't going to get much more adversity in the preliminary round than that third period with a blown call leading to a goal and then tons of penalty killing time. Canada looks like a team that can score and be scored on, which is entertaining but it can be a problem down the road if the defence is too porous.

Credit to some of the key players for being composed in the third, and you have to like how quickly the team can strike. Did not like Cameron's strategy of dropping his offensively talented players in the third even at even strength. Gave me Buffalo 2011 memories. You need top players to help create and maintain offensive pressure rather than just defending for a whole period. This Canadian team is not equipped to bunker down.

Overall the team looks solid going in to the quarterfinals. Winnable game against Switzerland that should still provide a challenge and a chance to iron out some defensive issues.

McTavish is a very reserved guy, and he plays the same way. I think he doesn't use his body in the OHL that much because it would probably get him into more trouble than it's worth. He's got a deadly shot, so he prefers to use it. It would be like asking Ryan Reaves to hang around the dot taking shots.

His skating is the same way, in that he stays steady until he needs to break out. Not sure where rumors of him being a bad skater come from, considering it was just a few days ago that he clearly outskated everyone while carrying the puck...

So Othmann scored a goal and as a result got pretty much benched? That's a very nice way to reward a goalscorer.

Bedard sat, too.

Dave Cameron had the same "deer in the headlights" look he had in 2011 during the 3rd period - I was at the Gold Medal Game in Buffalo during the meltdown. That worries me. Cameron just... freezes.

I would have called a time out after the 3rd Finnish goal but Cameron didn't - just like in 2011, until it was too late.

I am really not worried about any team but I'd prefer to face Sweden in the Semi's (over Finland) so let's hope Germany takes Sweden to overtime.

*******************************************************************************************************************

TSN finally corrected their "standings"...

I don't want to wait until Wednesday for more hockey. :(

***************************************************************************************************************

With Canada playing the Swiss and the American playing Czechia, Canada will likely be the Top Seed going into the Semis :

We already have a higher goal differential and that will likely increase on Wednesday.

Canada vs the Swiss

U.S. vs Czechia

Sweden vs Latvia

Finland vs Germany

***********************

Only the U.S. vs Czechia will be close. Maybe Latvia and Sweden.

They say there is always a quarter final upset. Not sure if that is true.

No upset coming this year.

He skates a bit like a Sean Monahan, though he's better at it. He actually has a lot of Monahan qualities, but just better. Better shot, stronger on the puck, better hands, and both guys are underrated playmakers.

But neither guy is a great skater and can sometimes not use their size as much as they should.
