You know what’s nice? Team Canada gets McTavish. If this tournament is in December there’s probably not a chance he is on team Canada. Does anyone else have 9 nhl games under their belt?

Canada looks good. I've really thought Johnson has been disappointing all things considered. If they could get some more dominant offense outta him they would be unstoppable but hes just not playing like a top 5 pick on a great line right now.

The only others players in the tournament with NHL games played are K. Johnson (9) and T. Bordeleau (8).

In the last couple games he's tilting the ice and creating chance after chance. Nearly ten shots each game. The puck just hasn't been going in much for him and his linemates. Can't complain with the effort.

Surprisingly quiet tournament from the entire 2nd line. Was expecting a lot more from Johnson, Stankoven.

The thing with Johnson is that because he tries so many different things it is pretty noticeable when he fails. Ambitious passes look great when they work but look terrible when they fail. He's been a bit unlucky when it comes to points though because he has had some good chances and made some passes that easily could have been turned into goals. Do not like how he has played on the powerplay though.

Would you (or anyone here) like to elaborate on this?

Shifts of PP1 against Czech at
17:56-19:05
24:45-26:00
27:07-28:42
on the video.

PP1 against Finland:
28:40-29:40
1:26:03-1:27:20

Would be cool if you can post time stamps of the plays you didn't like.

Not particularly inclined to do shift analyses to look for specific plays that I didn't like of Johnson on the powerplay. Have not liked it through four games though. If you linked the five minute powerplay against the Czechs, then I recall that he had a few bad giveaways and generally he can over handle the puck and doesn't look like a threat to shoot and score.

I dont think Johnson is playing with players that have a similar skill set or hockey IQ. Foerester in theory could work out with Johnson as the triggerman but thats in a scenario where the centerman can make plays with Johnson. Stankoven plays more like a grinder at this level.

And he doesn't have to, kids got good skill.

Does he at this level? Maybe compared to the CHL he does but I have never seen it at a best on best for his age group level. He is getting all the opportunity in the world and doing nothing with it.

I thought he was showing it in December before it got cancelled.

Ceulemans looked horrendous in camp so not a surprise they left him off, like bad enough that winter is questionable too.
For a short tournament in the summer where their is no runway to really find your game this makes sense. To think this has any bearing on the winter team does not

Like many players do for some reason, he's playing a different style than what he normally does that's for sure, even despite being in a position where he doesn't need to change anything about the way he played. He needs to play his game instead of deferring to Johnson every chance he gets. Usually he plays a speed, hustle, and skill game, but right now it's get the puck and hand it off to Johnson game. He's capable of a whole lot more. Glad he has been moved out of the slot on the powerplay though, should be able to create more in his usual spot.

Does anyone doubt that KJ would have a lot more points if you replaced Foerster with Bedard or Stankoven with McTavish? They've had a similar number of scoring chances if not more on line 2 vs line 1 in the last couple of games. One line just has all world finishing ability and the other not so much, though with KJ he'll shoot at a much better percentage than this and is just snake bit.

Wonder why does IIHF always jam the semis and finals back to back days
if this was USA networks running the show the final would be Monday night with all the glitter.
at least in this case run the GMG on Sunday prime time
give the boys a day off between is not asking much.

I still disagree. A lot of those shots are perimeter shots because hes been hanging out outside a lot. I dont think its an "effort" issue, its just the way he kinda plays the game. Not sure I can fully describe what I'm talking about but he plays slow/lacks pace and is on the outside way too much for my liking. I'm not saying hes been horrible or anything, I just expect more from a guy with hs draft pedigree and experience against men.

On TSN McKenzie just projected Cuylle on the top line and Othmann on the fourth. Cuylle has been ok but I don't like that. Othmann had some quotes in an article on TSN's website in which he said that he and Bedard were barely used in the third due to their poor defensive play. If McKenzie is right then I can't say that I like Cameron's thinking here. That line has been deadly with Othmann as the LW and Cuylle isn't exactly Patrice Bergeron.

If Cameron wants to bench Othmann and Bedard again then maybe Switzerland could keep it close. Would require the team to play up to their potential which likely won't be the case but good to see we're not the only team with idiot coaches:laugh:

Johnson’s play this WJC reminds me of EP40’s in his D+1

Both should have been the best player on their team but played like passengers. Elite skill is obvious, but so is lack of effort and urgency. Both played 2RW as well despite being drafted as centers, and had another C that was also a top pick out perform them. In EP40’s case it was Lias Andersson. In Johnson’s case it’s been McTavish

Safe to say Cuylle is the weakest link?
That’s been Desnoyers imo.

Cuylle is being shafted by not playing higher in the lineup until tonight. One of their better players early on

I thought Foerster was awful up until like 2 games ago. Same with Stankoven who hasn’t done much of anything
