That’s what I’ve been thinking, is I think becomes like a tkachuk brother skill set. Does mactavish hit a lot?

I find though that hes started to hit less over the past year, but hes also upped his overall play and skills. Its not like Matthew is a world beater in the hitting department. He doesn't come anywhere near Brady in terms of overall hits in a season. He has also played a lot of hockey and have travelled a lot over the past year, so wonder if that has any influence.

The knocks on him I've heard are that he looks unengaged for large parts of games so I'm guessing he's not as physical as you'd think.
Agreed. He is not physical in terms of looking to throw out big checks

But he has a good frame/size and knows how to use it/get inside. Doesnt get easily knocked off

Would like to see the P.P start to look better tonight, special teams wins you these tournaments and we aren"t clicking there yet. The goaltending looks fine with Garand and we have a big/skilled forward group that can push play though it would be nice to get a clear offensively producing 2nd line going. The defense is not the best group in the tournament but good enough to win with if they play to their capabilities and assuming we work out some of our weaknesses in other areas we have shown so far.

I like us to win that game tonight.

TSN has Finland's point total wrong - they have 8. Slovakia has 2 not 1.

*******

If Canada and the U.S. both finish with 12 points...

Playoff round

Winning teams will be reseeded for the semi-finals in accordance with the following ranking:
  1. higher position in the group
  2. higher number of points
  3. better goal difference
  4. higher number of goals scored for
If Canada wins in regulation, tonight, we would finish as the Top Seed assuming we score 2 goals or more.

If Canada wins in regulation, tonight, and Sweden beats Germany in regulation, Canada may have to play Finland twice.

I could see the Top 4 finishing....

Canada 12 points
USA 12 points
Sweden 9 points
Finland 8 points

*******

TSN has Finland's point total incorrect - they have 8 (I think).

If Canada and the U.S. both finish with 12 points, how do they determine the Top Seed?

If Canada beats Finland by 1, the Goal Differential would be the same between Canada and the U.S. : 18 - as per TSN.
Huh?

Canada and the US are in different divisions.
1 in group A plays 4 in group B.... If Canada wins its likely Can Vs Sui/AUS, USA vs CZE/SVK, FIN Vs GER and SWE vs LAT.

From there it all depends on results.. unless I missed something here

I am talking semis. My post assumes Canada, the U.S., Finland and Sweden all win their quarter final matches.

The Final 4 (semis) would be :

Canada (1) vs Finland (4)
U.S (2). vs Sweden (3)

Of course, everything changes if playoff points are part of the tie breaking equation - I am not sure.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Puck distribution from the defensemen isn’t a concern… defending is.
Yeah it seems Sebrango is the only one concerned about actually playing D. Wish he’d show some offense though too. Guy will definitely be an NHL player but I doubt it’s more than bottom pair

I’m curious, what current nhler does Mactavish project to be ? Thanks in advanced
Joe Pavelski is the lone really good comparison. Pretty unique type of player but he's literally a slightly bigger left shooting Pavelski. Slow skating and relatively poor playmakers but superb hands, elite goal scorers, own the slot, can play both C and W.

Is he a C or Wing?

I saw before(comp) a hybrid of Tkachuk brothers. Better skater than Matthew. But more skills than Brady.
Can and will play both but much like Pavelski he's probably the slightly better winger just because he's gonna get more scoring opportunities and more slot time on the wing.

No.

He's very engaged. One of the most impressive things about him is that he rarely takes a shift off. Also does win most of the battles. He's not a big or volume hitter but he's very hard to move.

Mctavish is a slow skater? doesn't look like it to me. I don't agree with the poor play maker thing either, he's not elite but fine in that department.
For the elite talent that he is, his skating is very poor. It's not what you expect from an NHL top6 player. His skating looks every bit as suspect and slow as Pavelski's. Some people are claiming Othmann's skating would be bad but if you compare them here or back in Switzerland it's actually not close.

Hmm, I don't see that, once he gets going he moves real well, he's a big boy and needs a few extra steps to get going but once he is there his skating is just fine to me, I don't think his skating will cause him any problems in the NHL.

I don't think his skating will cause problems. Didn't cause any for Pavelski either. Still. It looks suspect and it's not particularly good let alone fast.

interesting. i'll pay more attention to that, I haven't noticed a subpar skater at all when watching him. He's not Sergei fedorov or anything but I don't see it as being poor.

I mean it depends on who you compare him with. The guy was drafted 3rd overall and is expected to log top6 minutes so that's the type of players I use for comparison when I say his skating is poor.
