Hey, where’s the NHLe crowd with Power? Wasn’t he supposed to be dog shit? I recall him not even being in some top 10 draft lists.

First game takes at the WJC are like first month takes in the NHL. Hot and mostly completely over reactionary.

Wright, Johnson and others will be fine and will likely have staring moments.
I wouldn't be as concerned with Johnson, as he was still getting a lot of touches and looked dangerous at times.

Agreed on pretty much all counts.

Guhle to me was just so solid, his physicality really made him a force out there. McTavish is a man amongst boys.

2 games in a row that Wright has not looked good at all. I want to see Bedard get a look at centre and Wright in a more reduced role.

Overall, lots to like. The guys played a pretty hard nosed game with some skill. Good way to play and build off.
guhle looked very solid but I felt like he was somewhat chasing hits. looks like a solid player for the Habs

The first line was controlling a lot of play in last night's game. I am a little unsure of why people want to break it up.

I think the idea of moving Neighbours up to the second line with Perfetti and Bedard and sliding Wright down to the third line. Or maybe try Stankoven on the second line with Perfetti and Bedard if Bourgault is out; He had great chemistry with Bedard at the U18s.

So if Clarke is a defensive liability what is Zellweger?
Zel is much better defensively than Clarke, getting walked by an amazing move once doesn't change that. Should we start posting videos of good defenders getting walked. I still would have brang Clarke instead of any of the other defensemen.

I love how Cameron wasted 2 weeks of building chemistry between the lines just to move Bedard up to the top 6 after 15 minutes… when it was obvious to everyone on here that it was inevitable.

Defensive liability?

Apparently Team Canada didn't hold the rest of the D corps to that same standard (aside from Power).

Are you saying Clarke is better defensively than everyone on Canada except for Power or am I missing what youre trying to say?

Hes absolutely not better defensively than Guhle or Sebrango

No, I'm just saying he wouldn't be the only defenseman who can be considered shaky defensively. I actually don't think Clarke is even that bad defensively, and he more than makes up for it with his puck moving abilities.

I dont disagree with that, I just misread what you were saying. I've said before I woulda at least brought him to camp for sure.

Its what makes me think theres more to it than just him being weak defensively. Theyre never going to come out and say that though

The case of Shane Wright is a really interesting one. There are a ton of one game knee-jerk responses and lots of posters defending him due to prior performances. I'm going to do my best to provide a level-headed opinion here.

Shane Wright's game has never been about flash. But too many people are using that to justify his recent performances. He was also not a flashy player at last year's U18's and for Kingston as a 16 year-old but he was damn effective. Always in the right spot, always responsible with the puck and always capitalizing on his chances with his pro-level shot. Bedard was no doubt the most offensively dynamic player for Canada at that U18 tournament but Wright was their best.

Fast forward to this year and Shane Wright is not the same player. I say that living in Kingston and following him closely. I have no idea what happened between that tournament and this year but something drastically changed. He'd been playing better coming into the WJC but is still miles away from the player he was last year. He's been struggling to make good decisions with the puck, turning it over in bad spots and generating little offensively. His game always relied on his IQ and when that went he looks plain ineffective out there. His pro shot will still allow him to score goals but he's not an elite skater or someone with a high motor and it really does turn him into a passenger. People look to the stat sheet to say he's still producing in the OHL but he's playing on an absolutely offensively loaded Kingston team. I think the red flags would be even larger if he wasn't playing with the talent he is.

I say all this as someone genuinely rooting for him. He seems like a great kid who plays for my hometown team but I think it was a mistake to gift him a spot on this squad based on his strong camp last year. Yesterday's game was more of what I've seen from him in Kingston this year: a passenger with a pro shot. He won't hurt you but he's not going to be driving the play offensively either, and with the amount of talent available to Canada I think it was a mistake to bring that kind of player for a top 6 role.

Based on what I've seen him do so far this year, combined with his performance last night I think it only makes sense to swap him and Greig. Greig can do all the dirty work and get the puck to Perfetti/Bedard for offense and Wright can move to a line with two workers in Neighbours/Sourdif who can get him pucks in places where he can use his shot.

On a final note it's crazy to see the leaps in development McTavish has taken from that same U18 tournament. He was Canada's 3rd best forward in that tournament by a distance and yet looked downright dominant last night. Goes to show how much development is never linear and players can take big leaps both forward and backward.
