Really, the GM is why Vlassic sucked? I understand the coach having an affect but GM less so.

Watch him start to play well enough that the sharks extend him on another terrible contract.

this offseason is definitely the most indifferent and uninspired I have ever felt about the Sharks since becoming a fan in 03. at least there's been Bordeleau and Eklund the last couple drafts. But other than developing those guys, what is there to look forward to? Unlike many, I was still on board with the team after the WCF with the Blues, but everything has been bungled since around that time, and Grier has done nothing to instill confidence , to say the least

and made shit trades and use of assets, imo. granted the scouting department was probably leading the draft, but they could have used their draft collateral much better

My main interest next year is to see Eklund play and see if any of the AHL guys shine (Guschin, Coe, Wiesblatt, Bordeleau) and impress enough to make the NHL.

If Grier intends to go into the year with this team my hope is they do very badly and get Bedard though I don’t think they’re quite bad enough, sadly.

Really seems like Mike doesnt plan to trade a goalie. Not sure how having three NHL goalies doesnt piss one off but I guess its a choice.

if that’s the case it’s cause Hill is injured/no one wants to trade for him and they don’t want to give up the other two.

The trade down was a good move. The targets weren't as good. Kunin for a future 3rd is kinda whatever. Judging Grier's tenure as a GM as terrible for it is pretty crazy.

Personally, I'm waiting to see what his FO overhaul looks like first before I get real judgy

...when 35-year-old Kris Letang gets 6 years of term, nothing is impossible.

Pure speculation on my part, but I found this quote from president of the Yotes, Xavier Gutierrez, pretty cool and interesting. I wonder if his sentiment for his hometown and Grier being new with a need for an olive branch in a way. Could we have a potential reoccurring trade partner?

“I just told him I was very happy for him, I'm here to be supportive in any way, shape or form and that I grew up in San Jose and I'm very proud of the organization for [hiring him]."

What is our "ghost" roster right now?

From what I remember of last year, Hertl and Meier were with Barabanov which leads me to believe that Gregor, Dahlen, or Balcers will be a top 6 winger.

Maybe remembering all of this was bad.

You could have Hertl, Meier, Barabanov, Couture, Eklund or Bordeleau, and Labanc or Bonino. It's still not especially good, unless one of the prospects rapidly develops or the veterans have a resurgence, of course.

I do kind of expect Dahlen or Balcers to see top six time if they're not traded. We just don't have six, or even five, bona fide and established top six forwards.

Ghost roster is something like:

???-Hertl-Barabanov
Meier-Couture-Labanc
Balcers-Bonino-Nieto
Viel/Reedy- Pederson-Weatherbody
(Eklund, Bordeleau)

???-Burns
Vlasic/Karlsson
Simek-Merkley
(Knyzhov, Megna, Hatakka)

Reimer
Hill

Players in parentheses are guys signed already, and who have played either last year, or the one before in Knyzhov's case, so realistically are probably fighting for a spot again this year.

Then the list of unsigned guys that played last year:

Forwards- Chmelevski, Kunin. Dahlen, Gadjovich and Gregor

Defense- Ferraro, Meloche

Goalie- Kahkonen

Think it is probably safe to assume Ferraro, Kunin and Kahkonen are getting signed.

That means the question marks at D go away. Technically Kunin fills in the last gap in the forward roster, but hopefully not that exact spot, and we already had two goalies so yeah....

I would imagine Gregor gets a contract. Think he did enough to warrant keeping him and seeing if his shot can improve. Not really sure Dahlen gets signed. Gadjovich seems like the type of player Grier is looking for and that leaves Meloche which is whatever.

Paywall. Update on goalie market. Washington, Edmonton, Toronto and maybe Buffalo need starting goalie.

Perhaps Grier's talk about Sharks goalies means he's looking for a blow-me-away offer to pry Reimer or Hill out.

All 3 of our NHL goalies are not waiver exempt and we don’t have the cap space to carry 3 goalies. Unless Hill will still be recovering from his injury at the start of the season, we need to trade one of the goalies. Joe Will said as much in a presser last season. I expected the trade to happen at the draft. I don’t understand what Mike is doing.

He might be trying to up the price for a goalie trade. Any of the three can be assigned without going through waviers? If not, then he's likely loosing one on the wavier wire.

Great, lose assests for free because you wanted to wait untill all teams filled the roster spot.
I'll give him the benefit of doubt and say he's smart enough to avoid that. He's probably negotiating right now with a few teams that didn't get their goalie pick out of the draft. Hopefully, he'll pick up a 2023 2nd for Hill.

I have no idea why he decided to trade down for a couple of 2022 2nds in a weak draft, not getting one of those for 2023.
