Brandt Clarke is going to be a problem.

Sky is the limit but this guy's vision and improvisation is second to none. His ability to shake checks and buy time and space is better than even rookie Doughty.
Yep. It already looks like the issue is going to be whom they dump/waive to make room on the right side. I’m trying not to get excited but he looked top draw. Nuts that he didn’t make the WJC team.

I thought more than 2 players looked good, unless I'm being too literal. I thought Byfield, Clarke, Helenius, and Nousiainen all looked very good.

Pinelli, Ward, and Madden all looked decent.

Regarding Byfield's production, I think we both know his statline doesn't reflect his level of play.
- I didn't see any specific stats, but he only lost a handful of faceoffs (I'm guessing around 4)
- one opportunity he was at the side of the net and he missed his one-timer
- at the end of the game, he used his speed and size to try chipping the puck with a net drive, but used his momentum to help recover the puck
- on multiple occasions, he picked the pocket either controlled by the opposition or 50/50 pucks.
- there was the zone entry where he threaded the puck through multiple players leading to a scoring chance
- he, himself, had at least 3 quality scoring chances with a clean shot in a high-danger area

The points, on average, will come with performances like this.

I understand the position about production, but I just focus on the how. As long as his level of play continues to improve, the points will come.

However, I think this game also is a good example of Byfield being a project. Despite his skillset, at his age, he's not a "carry the line" level yet. He really needs to have good veterans alongside him to reinforce these good habits, so he can produce as well.

Edit: also, while this is a "tourney", it's glorified exhibition among rookies and prospects. Spence, Chromiak, and Thomas all sat today. Clearly winning is a bonus, but these matches are about getting your skating legs in and showing "good habits".
Do you agree that the stick looked longer (I thought by quite a bit). if so that may impact his shot a little as the lay of his blade will also have changed and it’ll take a bit of an adjustment for him.

I honestly couldn't tell. Though with his ability to pick pocket the opposition, and reduced frequency of trying to protect the puck with one hand on his stick, it wouldn't surprise me to find out he has a longer stick

None.

(It's a typically Hungarian name, although pretty common in Slovakia, too, as a neighboring country. So, Ladislav's nickname was "Magyar", although he's ethnically Slovak.)

This Colorado youngster Nagy is Canadian, although doubtlessly Hungarian somewhere down the line among his ancestors.

(By the way, the name is pronounced completely differently in English, Slovak, and original Hungarian. It's a one-syllable name when pronounced in Slovak and Hungarian.)
Remember Charles Nagy the Indians pitcher?

Nope, never heard of him. As a European (who never visited the US), I struggle to comprehend what exactly a pitcher is. Unless you mean this:

Don't be blinded by the upside.
Clarke is not defensively ready for the NHL.
Give him another look at the end of the season.
If he outplays Walker in camp he should earn a spot. The Kings are in need of offense and a better powerplay. He would help solve these issues. They play with such a defensive team structure that it will help hide his deficiencies. Would like to see them try Roy on the left side in camp and see if they could work together. Durzi is bad defensively, slower, and is bad pivoting getting beat wide but he makes it work. Clarke fills a void the team has been needing and he should have a shot to earn a spot. You do not send down a top pick if he has what it takes to learn on the job. Enough with the over marinating.

He is taking about baseball bro

What dat? :skeptic:

(Honestly, I have no clue. Most of us here in Europe have no clue. Yeah, we know it's a ballgame, but we typically have no idea why those folks keep running around in those weird triangles in such funny ways. Also, pretty much nothing ever seems to be happening in those "games". I'm stunned that Patrick O'Neal would give up being the host of Kings broadcasts for... that thing.) :loony:

Well as long as byfield and Clarke look really good nothing else matters.

This. Ultimately whilst I’m hoping one of the other kids emerges and forces Blake’s hand (Hope Thomas but more likely Fagemo, due to his layoff) its about those 2 guys. If Clarke takes a spot and Byfield makes a meaningful step this team is significantly better.

At this point I’m hoping everyone starts bitching that Blake should never have signed Durzi to 2 years, because of Clarke… let’s face it that’s exactly what will happen if he takes that spot.
