The Kings play again tomorrow, so I'm sure he'll start tomorrow.

How hasn't Byfield looked good? I agree that Grans doesn't look too great, but not terrible, either. I'd say more mediocre.

Was gonna say I know I defend Byfield a lot so my opinion doesn't mean much here but he's done everything I would want but score. He's even thrown a couple of big hits and at least one good stiffarm reverse hit. Very clearly the best forward on the ice as he should be.

Grans looks sloppy., but i'd give anyone a pass for that at this stage of camp.

A couple guys I was hoping would look really good — Byfield and Grans — kind of haven't. Clarke looks great though.
Interesting, feel like Byfield has been fairly solid. Some good cycle work in the offensive zone, a few takeaways, a nice chance on that breakaway, winning most of his faceoffs, and I've noticed him positioning himself on board battles better than he was last season (particularly when he's the third guy monitoring).

Byfield has done everything but score, he's stood out above the rest in terms of puck possession, and his line has spent the most amount of time in the offensive zone. So not sure how Byfield hasn't looked good in this game.

I turned the game on a bit of the way into the second, so perhaps I missed a fair bit of his good play. But for a guy with 50 career NHL games, he hasn't been especially noticable to me. Granted, that could be his Kopitar-esque "lazy" style of play. Not trying to put bad vibes out into the universe!

Grans on the other hand actively looked bad on a few occasions, once in allowing that 2-on-1 and then after that, scrambling behind the net.

Clarke is an elite defenseman and I think he's going to force the Kings to make a trade or waive someone this season though.

A 20 year old #2 pick coming off a season in the NHL should be destroying this level of competition, it is not stat-watching to be expecting huge production. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect him to score a goal-per over the tournament. I remember when I saw Adam Fox in Traverse City tournament 3 years ago and there was no question that he was multiple levels better than the competition, I think he had 5 or 6 points in the game I saw. That is unrealistic, but statistical offensive domination in a rookie tournament isn't.

Clarke is going to put them in a tough spot, especially with Durzi and Anderson both signed. You can see the offensive talent from this kid is special, and for a team that struggled to score at both ES and on the PP he can add something from the blueline.

But again if they keep 8 d-man that means they are going to have to send down at least 2 of the waiver wire warriors. Or they can keep 7 and send down Bjornfot (which would be terrible for his development and morale). You would think if they were going to have made a trade (Walker) they'd have done by now. Also the only young player under Blake to play NHL games without first going to the AHL was Bjornfot (3 games) and you could maybe throw JAD in there he played only 8 AHL games when his junior season ended before making the team at 19. But that was only for 5 games. If Clarke sticks it would be going against what the Kings stand for, but maybe Glen Murray would say Clark is a McDavid type player.

Byfield looks good and the stick is definitely longer. Clarke looks superb but we shouldn’t get excited given the fact it’s a rookie tournament.

I keep hearing nagy. Any relation to ladislav?

None.

(It's a typically Hungarian name, although pretty common in Slovakia, too, as a neighboring country. So, Ladislav's nickname was "Magyar", although he's ethnically Slovak.)

This Colorado youngster Nagy is Canadian, although doubtlessly Hungarian somewhere down the line among his ancestors.

(By the way, the name is pronounced completely differently in English, Slovak, and original Hungarian. It's a one-syllable name when pronounced in Slovak and Hungarian.)

Wow. Clarke doing everything freakin' possible and every other King on the ice is incapable of completing a single pass.
