I got to watch a little bit of EK back then and he was incredible, but Makar is (imo) light years better defensively. Karlssens only defense was having the puck himself, which was pretty good, but he got beat a lot
At his best he was pretty decent defensively but there were certainly some years he left a lot to be desired. I agree Makar is better defensively but it’s not by that much if we are talking about peak Karlsson.
