I don't know if there's a proper analogy to be drawn between McDavid and Ovi, but I don't think Ovi has ever requested a trade despite all of that choking and he stuck through all of the shit to win a Cup.

Now if McD turns 35 and he hasn't won a cup...

the caps at least made it out of the first round a bunch of times. the oilers with mcdavid have only won a single playoff series in 6 years. that's inexcusable

I suppose that's true - I guess 1st round vs 2nd round never really mattered to me, you didn't make it to the Conference final.

I can't wait for the "Connor is a bad leader" takes, to be honest. It's only a matter of time before the discussion shifts from "the team is shit" to "Choker McDavid".

Ovi also had a better supporting cast and they had some good goalies from their system like the Ducks have.
Holtby, Grubauer, Varlamov, Vanecek, Neuvirth.

While their past 6 drafts haven't really shown anything at all except maybe McMichael becomes a 3C, before that the Capitals were drafting alot of talent and hitting on picks up til 2015. Vrana, Burakovsky, Forsberg, Wilson, Stephenson, Kuznetsov, Johannson, Orlov, Eakin, Carlson, Perreault, Green, Semin.
Alot of those were not even lottery picks, like Carlson was with the 27th overall pick.

As crazy as it sounds i could see Edmonton firing their GM and asking to speak to Madden. He'd find them Goalies and Dmen for sure. He probably takes his dad with him who is a scout in the Ducks org.

As much as I love Hampus, I’m still incredulous the Bruins didn’t go out and prioritize getting a 2C. Carolina’s depth guys are simply killing them when they don’t have the last change and can’t control matchups

What options were even out there? Giroux wouldn't accept a trade there and Hertl didn't end up going anywhere.
