You have no clue what we offered. Don't be so ridiculous.

What if he didn't want 7x10 with us? What if we were used to drive the price up? You have no clue what Fitz did or didn't do. Be better.

Or he didn't want to sign here... sometimes players don't want to play for certain teams, you know that right?
Excuses and rationalizations I’m tired of it. Every freaking team in our division is trying to win and we’re just sitting around picking our noses as usual…but it’s okay we’ll be $20 million under the cap again and save the owners money! We win the no bad contracts Cup at least!

I don’t even really want to get in a bidding war for Palat. I’d rather Nino

They should pass on both and skip out on the FA market now. Move on to making a trade down the line. The rest of these guys are gonna be bad choices. You already need to clear out a contract or two up front.

My guess is he grew up a Flyers fan, never liked the Devils and didnt want to live in NJ. Columbus is only a 2-3 hour flight or 9 hour drive if he wants to visit, taxes are slightly less but not that much of a difference. He prob had his heart set on Philly. Oh well.

Nope. If NYR is offering me stupid money I’m going.

Sorry but not sorry.
I understand both sides.

If I'm a player at 27+ and have been in the league or pro hockey for 9 years now, I probably lose a little bit of my fandom of whatever team I rooted for as a kid, unless I had played for that organization myself.

As I posted earlier, I was against signing him anyway.

However, perhaps his agent overplayed his hand and Lou and Fitz just dropped out and didn't get into a bidding war.
This is what makes the most sense to me

Outside of Gaudreau just not wanting to play here

The fact that the player didn’t sign here is fairly good evidence that he didn’t want to sign here. Let’s wait to see if we made a competitive offer. Not much reason to think otherwise.

There absolutely IS reason to think otherwise considering why he left Calgary, where the Devils are located, what the Devils have on their team, and where he ended up going.

You seem to have forgotten last year when the Devils spent a ton? Also if Fitzgerald were done for the day, he would have a media availability. He's not done.

Didn't know how much I wanted Johnny to sign here until it looked like we were getting him. In time I'm sure I'll appreciate the cap room, but right now, if our only additions are Haula, Smith and Geertsen, I think it's safe to say we are one of the losers. Also sucks that we missed on Pacioretty and others going for Johnny. Hope one day we'll find out what we offered, but I doubt it..

FWIW Bob McKenzie speculated exactly this...he was wondering if perhaps JG or his agent severely misunderstood the Philly situation and thought they could make things work. He wondered if they knew how Philly never came close if he'd have stayed in Calgary.

Yes, involved in the biggest free agent two years in a row. Definitely just picking our noses and not trying.

I kinda don’t want anyone now. Don’t think any of the remaining FAs really move the needle and not sure I trust Fitz enough not to end up with Johnssson/Tatar again.

Trades? Sure but who?
