We have enough small skilled midgets on this team who we will be paying a bunch of money once Bratt resigns. We do not need another who we have to give up assets for. Signing Gaudreau is another story (although personally I’m not a huge fan of throwing a bunch of money at him either).

I thought the Flyers declined a trade for Debrincat for pick #5 feel if it’s too much to give up? But now people think we will have to add to pick #2???
No way if that’s the cost.
Pay pick#2 plus another piece have two years (or is it 1 ? ) of control , then have to pay out the ass for him ?
No .
Fitz sayig we need to her heavier , plus not wantimg to trade for a player that you don’t have much control over = he won’t trade (hopefully not) for the Cat.

It was Philly saying 5+ is too much. That doesn't mean Fitz can't think 2+ is acceptable

Depends what the plus is. Or in Philly's case it might have been 5 plus while in our case it might be 'just' 2.

Long term there's likely just the 2 small guys in Jack and Bratt. Adding Debrincat or Johnny isn't an issue because "small"

I mean Wysh said it wouldn't be 'just' 2.

I’d rather have Gaudreau with Nico as both Hughes and Johhny like to carry the puck through the neutral zone and set up offence by entering the zone with the puck on their stick.
A lot of their offence is based off of that.
Yes it would be filthy having Johnny and Hughes on the same line but not sure if it’s the most efficient tandem.

Dach lost his shine quickly. After his rookie year playoffs it looked like he could be a Keith Primeau type.
the draft is littered with players that don't live up to their potential why its huge if you can avoid it by adding nhl talent then you do it

Fitz will shock the world when he walks up to the podium & says, with the 2nd overall pick, we trade it for Miller. He then drops the mic & walks off the stage with Vince Mcmahon's theme song playing in the background. Completing Fitz heel turn.......lol just kidding 😂😂

BTW this must be what Flyer fans felt like when suddenly Hischier became the #1 pick and they wound up with the guy they were expecting to be #1...this better turn out different since we're probably gonna be on the other end of the swappidie-doo this time :P

Does Wright have an extensive and troubling injury history?

why is Chicago doing this? Shouldnt the young guys be the ones to build around? If you are going to blow it up, trade Kane

New GM who inherited no picks and maybe wasn't on board with the Dach selection in the first place. Kane trade might be something that does happen.

I did enjoy having an argument with somebody on the Chicago board leading up to the 2019 Draft. He had the standpoint that they shouldn't draft a defenseman with a high pick because they had a higher bust rate and they could find one later a la Duncan Keith. I wonder if he'd take Bowen Byram for Kirby Dach right now?

Although if it were me, I wouldn't trade Dach for #8 (Detroit) or Columbus (presumably #12). #6 from Columbus would be interesting if Jiricek is still on board, but I feel like Columbus would just take Jiricek for themselves.

doesn't kane have this year left on his contract? he will be gone by the deadline (would be a tremendous pickup btw)

I agree that I don’t want

I agree about not wantimg to add any more small players but Gaudreau is the only exception I have.
Guy was second in scoring last year and crushed records for 5 on 5 production in the past 20 years.
One of a very very wingers that can drive their line from the wing (Panarin / Kaprizov/ P Kane and Johhny are the only ones I can think of )

No but I don't actually think that's why Patrick busted, he just isn't any good. He played the majority of his first two seasons and was pretty Zacha-esque. He also played 52/56 games in the post-pandemic year and was awful.

I think it's more than fine. It's not like having a Bratt+Nico combo on the 2nd line won't be good enough. Bratt had the 3rd best offensive playdriving season in the entire league last year behind just McDavid and Matthews and the 6th best on record.

Trading premium assets for this type of player when an arguably better one is available for nothing but dollars doesn’t make sense

I agree. I'm fully on Johnny>Debrincat. I'm more arguing that them being small isn't an issue.

In his rookie year Dach had a game against us where he did this really cool spin move thing but didn't score and I think that kinda sums up his career.

I still remember being shocked the Blackhawks didn't go Byram at 3 and that of all people they went for Dach

trade for cat
sign johnny
ride blackwood one last time
add size when it becomes available at the deadline?
worry about the cap later.
I’d love to add that much skill but not two small guys and that would cost to s and we’d be too top heavy very soon. Hughes Bratt Nico Car Johhny then eventually Mercer Holtz Gritsyuk possibly .

I figured it'd have been Turcotte. You were basically splitting hairs between Turcotte and Byram as the 3/4. Turcotte's from Chicago and is a two way C so it made some sense to have him learn under Toews.

except that player has to want to come here. now if the devils were to trade for johnnys rights last week we wouldn't be in this position

It’s an issue in the sense that you traded an asset which could’ve addressed a size / physicality / below the hashmarks problem for doubling down on a type of player we have a lot of (albeit in DeBrincats case he’s a sniper not a playmaker)
