The only silver lining of not getting the number one overall pick, (Wright - no brainer there) is the insight into who the Habs would draft at 2-7 who are pretty even and what kind of skill set this new management group prefers, and how they view the prospects that we've been analyzing for the last several months.

That isn’t set in stone. In fact I’d bet that Cooley will likely drop out of the Top 3 in favour of one of the defencemen. GMs will prefer a big RD over a 5’10 centre. That’s just the way the NHL is.

Seattle, for instance, are much more likely to take someone they can envision being their #1D (to pair with Ryker Evans) than someone that would slot into the 2C position.
True, but i highly doubt Nemec AND Jiricek will both be going in top 4…..and i doubt we are falling out of the top 4…..either way, we need C’s, LW’s and RD’s….fortunately for us, there are at least 1 of each in that top 5 so its almost a can’t lose situation for us.

We gotta stop thinking that we will be going 7-0 in the last 7 games and ALL the teams in the bottom 5 are going 0 for

We’ve played .500 hockey or so under St-Louis and we are 1 Arizona win from falling back into last place.

I don t think Cooley is the 2nd OA anymore, people are higher than I do on Slaf. Team Nemec Jiricek ;)
Ya, that wasn’t necessarily the order i thought they'd go in….they just the top 3 talents in the draft IMO

My list for montreal is

1. Wright
2. Slaf
3. Jiricek
4. Cooley
5. Nemec/Savoie

I wouldn't be surprised if Nemec or Jiricek go 2 or 3. There's a strong chance if we are picking 4 that Slaf or Cooley is there.

Especially if NJ or Seattle are picking ahead of us.

Does anyone have any info on Pano Fimis of Niagara. Seems quite intriguing.

There are more smaller dmen playing than ever in the league but very few are that tiny. Mete probably has a couple inches and a good 15 pounds on him. It'll be hard for him to defend against pros.
USDP website has him listed as the same height as Mete. @covfefe also said that his brother is 5’10 and his dad is 5’11. To me, drafting him and/or Lindgren is a must. We need dmen with offensive swagger.

I don't know, to my eye at least he looks about 5ft7-8 and maybe 165. You could be right though. He'll be on the small side, in any case.

If you believe that he has high end talent, you take him with the Flames pick if he is listed at 5'9. Don't think being an inch smaller than Quinn Hughes will make him unsuccessful. However, we definitely need a guy like Guhle, Romanov or Barron next to him. I just think that we need offensive dmen in the worst way that we need to gamble on guys like him as opposed to more 2way dmen.

Wright-Cooley- Slaf are going 1-2-3, so one of Nemec or Jiricek will be there….we are more then likely drafting top 3 though so no need to worry, we are getting a good one this year
If the Habs finish 31st, it's 57.8% of drafting top 3, 42.2% of drafting 4th.

I'm good with any of them, but my personal top 5 goes:

1. Wright
2. Cooley
3. Jiricek
4. Slavkovsky
5. Nemec

That top 5 is of course based off the fact that Jiricek shows his knee is 100% healed. That injury makes me nervous, however, especially in a player that is not the most mobile.

However, I see the Jiricek vs Nemec debate as kind of the Sergachev vs Julolevi debate a few years back.

One is bigger, more physical and has a better shot. The other is a smooth skating D with a good vision, but less physical. I don't like that Nemec has a poor shot... I want a big RD with a big shot if I draft in the top 5. Of course Nemec can become a Karlsson and make me look silly, but well.

I don't want Savoie in the top 5. He's small, and I don't think he'll be a C in the NHL. He had a full beard already last year, makes me think he won't get much taller.

I don’t think Nemec necessarily has a bad shot he just doesn’t use it enough

Jiricek's knee looks good.

The kid gives me Seider vibes.

He is even more purely talended than Seider, thats how good he is.

Ive had this guy ranked #1 since early november. Now Im ambivalent between him and Slafkovsky, top 2 is a no brainer for me, you cant go wrong with either, they are absolute elite material.

Wright shut down again tonight for a 2nd straight game and almost gave Ottawa the win on a silver plate in OT. I dont know how much the broken foot he suffered is affecting his game, but I dont recall the last time he beat a goaltender cleanly, his shoting attemps are predictable and either get stopped or blocked by defenders. There is alot of inconsistency in his play, he had a good stretch lately, but then, 2 underwhelming showings in a row...

That inconsistency and lack of dominance at junior level just cant make me rank him on the same level as the clear cut top 2 and probably not even over Kemell or Nemec either.

Your posts make me think that not winning the lottery would be the best option, let another team make that difficult decision
