Ehhhhh, I feel like 6-8 might have some hiccups.

Agree regarding the top 5 for sure though.

Like I have said previously though, apparently a couple of Ottawa scouts really like Kaspar. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s our guy assuming the consensus top 6 are gone and we decide to keep the pick.
I am not sure if that bodes well for the draft or not. :)

Kaspar definitely checks a lot of their boxes. A centre with pro size and tools. Questions around his skill and upside, but a high floor. He fits that Pinto, Bowers, White mold.
The Pinto reference looks decent but the Bowers and White references don't give me confidence in Kaspar.

I would say by pick #6 as Gauthier seems to be rising. It looks to me like the top 6 will include: Wright, Slafkovsky, Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek and Gauthier.
I agree. If this is the case I'd like to take Savoie but I know we won't so my next choice would be Danila Yurov. I want one more highly skilled guy and am sick of all this talk of Sens style hockey.

Sam's rankings.

6. Savoie
7. Gauthier
8. Kasper
9. Kemell
10. Lekkerimaki

If the Sens keep their pick would they trade up one spot to get Gauthier or possibly Jiricek who ever is sitting there? I personally do not see Savoie going 6.

Elite Prospects has some spicy takes this year as per usual.

Very in depth though, and the formatting is quite clean this year.

Nazar in the top 5.

I wonder if any of Kemell, Lekkerimaki, Ostlund, Ohgren, Kasper can have the same kind of impact that Elias Pettersson had. Scouts saw talent know doubt but he was not universally touted as a top 10 pick

Some stuff being said about him ; Nation Network 2017 Prospect Profile: #5 – Elias Pettersson

He is flirting with the top 10 in most rankings as are at least Kemell, Lekk, and Kasper ..

Listening to them attempt to explain Stutzle’s game, why he was rated 9th, and how he skates himself into trouble made me crack up laughing.

That group panel was hilarious to listen too

To be fair I haven’t followed them at all so I have no clue if it’s the same group of JD Burke and co.

Elite Prospects is definitely the best site for gathered rankings.

I haven't really watched Nazar that closely. I've seen that team play several times but never really zoned in on him. I listened to the EP building the list youtube.. and they really like his talent and his ability to process the game quickly. The people that like him seem to really like him.

Like Bondra said their rankings and rational re Stutzle was a little bogged down in being overly critical of some pretty thin slices.

Yeah their rankings are a little contentious. But I always appreciate the content they put out

Stutzle at 8 is jaw dropping bad. Unforgivable almost. Tim was a unicorn prospect with elite skating, hands, compete, playmaking, deception and a very projectable frame. literal unicorn.

and the stuff he was doing against men as a 17 year old was mind-blowing, straight embarrassing them and playing with them.

8 is unforgivable

I'm making a prediction!

If, by pick 7, the dmen aren't there, the Sens will trade back to pick 10-12 and draft McGroarty.

He'd still be a reach at that spot...I think he's predicted to go in the 15-18 range, but he basically checks all of the boxes that Trent and Pierre love.

Oozes leadership. USNDP usually has 2 captains per year...but they kept McGroarty as captain for an entire year, at the request of the players.

All reports are that he's a great kid. Great in the locker room

I think his dad played pro hockey (IHL?)

He's a power forward who can score goals.

Excellent shot. Great down low. Can feed a pass really well too.

Knock is his skating. Not a weakness, but not speedy either.

**obviously assuming the Sens don't trade pick 7
If the Sens trade back or make a trade for a player that includes a 2022 1st round pick as part of the return then I could certainly see them drafting McGroarty. I am a big fan of his and think he will end up being a very good player.

I could also see the Sens targeting Ivan Miroshnichenko or Lian Bichsel if they trade far enough back and McGroarty isn't available.

But my point about Jiricek is that most uninformed posters uncritically compare his current 18YR old season to the 17YR old seasons of alternatives like Nemec and Korchinski thinking they are in the same development year.

Perhaps I don't understand what you mean by late birthday.

Jiricek is two and a half months older than Simon Nemec. So my natural way of assessing it is that Nemec might have a tiny bit more runway left for mental development, and I'd say a tiny bit more physical development too except Jiricek is the one with a lot more room on his frame to get bigger and stronger.

I think you're referring to something else, perhaps the number of years they've played hockey? We don't have that information, I don't think. For all we know Nemec started earlier. I don't know how the age cut-offs work in Czechia and Slovakia or if it matters here at all. Both of these guys might have been playing well above their age group their entire life on the ice.

I go for either of the top two defensemen if one is still around by 7th.

If not my choice would be Gauthier or Kasper and if they are picked then I move back a couple spots and grab a 2nd round pick and take Geekie or McGroarty.

Savoie is going to drop , how many spots will see.

It'd be interesting to see if MTL passes on Wright (for whatever reason) and picks someone like Slafkovksy. Can't remember there was that much of a shake up on draft day. Biggest one I can recall is Seth Jones not being picked in the top 3

Puljarvi not being taken in the top 3 in 2016

I thought it was going to be a toss up between JP or Juolevi.
"Laine was described by multiple scouts as the "best goal-scoring winger prospect to come along since Alexander Ovechkin in 2004." Laine was ranked no lower than No. 3 (by one of the 10 scouts) and was a clear No. 2 on TSN's final list.

Another Finn, big hard-shooting, strong-skating winger , completed TSN's Big Three of this draft by securing nine of 10 third-place votes. That trio is a cut above the rest of this draft class. Not one prospect other than Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi was ranked in the top three in our survey."

Juolevi was ranked 6th

Puljarvi was ranked no lower than 3rd, and was ranked ahead of Laine by 1/10

I was just looking at mynhldraft prior years, and in almost every year, the oilers take whomever they were predicted to take. It is almost like the scouts just used that site as their guide.

The couple years they didnt follow they selected worse. Like when they were projected to take Matt Tkachuk and took Poolparty instead.
