I want a RW that is ready to go.

We can move Batherson down to even out the lines

Tkachuk/Norris/ drafted player
Joseph/Stutzle/Batherson

Am I willing to put a kid on the top line? 100% sink or swim baby

There are several RWs that could be available at 7th OA, I prefer Lekkerimaki because I think he is the most NHL ready in size & skillset, however I'm of the opinion one of the top 6 will fall to us & I have Gauthier in the top 6. Giroux would fill that top line RW spot perfectly if he were to sign here & that would give Lekkerimaki a couple of yrs to beef up. They also have Joseph who played there last yr for a number of games before he got hurt & should be back with the team for next season. I also wonder if Sokolov would fit somewhere in the top six maybe with Formenton & Pinto.

There are a lot of good overage OHL players this season which is probably not surprising given the circumstances.

I like Tucker Robertson, Kyle Jackson, and Samuel Mayer. The latter two in particular seem like guys the Sens would be interested in. Ryan Humphrey will get some consideration too.

Kasper Larsen is another fascinating one; you don't usually get hands that soft in a player his size. Not sure if his feet are going to get to NHL level but I'd expect that given how much he improved throughout the season and the recognition he received in the OHL coaches poll that he should get drafted.

Anyone see any reasonable deals out there that would have us trading back? Buffalo has 9, 16 and 28 for example.

I know someone will respond to this with a "no we need a difference maker" type response. I'm thinking the same thing. But I'm wondering if the additional kicks at the can from trading back might make us more likely to find that player.

Its why advanced stats in hockey just aren't that useful. They never are in team sports really other than baseball

They're pretty useful for helping with drafting. Look at Bader's post comparing draft performance by teams with his model. His model would have drafted like 10 superstar players in a 10 year period because it loved players like Point, Kucherov etc... Doesn't mean you can rely on that stuff (you shouldn't) but I found it compelling that an algorithm could do so well and have a higher overall success rate with quality NHLers (nearly twice the NHL average).

Use analytics to help your list and then use scouting to actually make your list. Don't overlook players who are loved by models if you got a chance at them with like a 3rd round pick etc...

He was confident, he just lashed out a bit at internet know it alls. In response to some questions.

He was for sure defensive, but for a guy who’s made a lot of good selections it must suck to constantly deal with internet nerds who talk shit with nothing ever on the line, and no consequences at all when they are wrong.

It was a nice sound bite and totally true.

Yeah but he should've been expecting that given that they picked a guy ranked in the 2nd round at 10 overall haha

Both D won't be available when we draft most likely; just adds to the growing reasons why we should/will trade the pick.

We should trade up to get one of them IMO

I haven't watched any of those kids, but you make a good point.

This is definitely a good time to lok at overagers. The covid years really messed a lot of things up, and there's likely to be a few kids who did slip through the cracks. And I do think we're going to need to have a few fresh bodies to fill out the roster in Belleville this fall at the very least.

A bit late to the news, but apparently Mann referenced the salary cap as factor in his draft decisions last year?

Gross. Please don't do that this year.

Says that guys are needed in a salary cap world (just assuming he means guys like Coleman/Goodrow/Hagel as they are the in thing now in the copycat league) and teams don’t give them up and they price themselves out of cap teams.

On my 2nd listen through there is definitely more to it than I previously stated about the guys we drafted, which is just terrible to hear.

This Bader?

He's an idiot.

Assen na yo!

The problem with Bader is that his models weren't good for calculating players out of certain European leagues like the DEL. However, instead of realizing that, he just said the Sens should have drafted Rossi/Perfetti over Stutzle/Sanderson like it was a fact.
