I think I am higher on Pinto than most. I don't know him that well but I thought he was our 2nd best forward before his injury. I would be disappointed if he did not turn out to be a top 2c and I think he will be better than norris 5v5. I hope we find a 1c in the draft, our pick is sliding!

I see him developing into a completely reliable top 4 D who makes nice outlet passes and chips in about 30 points. He's not going to be leading the rush or running a PP but will contribute offensively.

Fair enough I respect it and I hope you are correct

He had Stutzle and Sanderson in his top 4, and Greig in his top 15.

Just like any other scouting source, he has his opinions but he’s pretty solid once you separate his love of the Habs.

Well everyone had Stutzle in their top four. It was almost unanimous Lafreniere, Raymond, Byfield, Stutzle in some order or another. Wonder who he left out for Sanderson.

"Has his opinions, just like any other scouting source" is a weak claim though. Not all opinions are created equal. But anyways, I'll take your word for it that he's not a hack.

Would still love to hear from SOA though, he's really good with this stuff.

McCagg was one of Timmons guys. Timmons gifted him the scouting job with the Habs for the 2 seasons before they parted ways.

He absolutely follows the prospects more prolifically than those here, as that’s his job with Recrutes. He still definitely has contacts in the NHL and around the rinks in Ontario, hard not to when you work in that business for the better part of a decade.

I’m not so much a fan of his rankings, but that’s just rankings, I usually have differing opinions on certain guys. He puts in the work and watches the guys

I think he's a respectable source to answer that question. I like him better than most of the run of the mill public "scouts" . He has a real background in NHL scouting and has many NHL scouting contacts. His rankings will change and firm up more towards the draft. He definitely seems to have an eye. I don't take any of the rankings too seriously.. but if he is saying Cutter Gauthier is a stud for example.. Its worth taking notice imo. That caught me more than the change at 1OA. I would trust what he has to say over Wheeler and Pronman and HockeyWriters and DraftPro and several other scouting services but... with rankings its not always about agreeing with some one at a specific spot to me . If has has something to say about a prospect I would listen . I would not at all be surprised to see Wright back at 1 before the end of the season. I like his more straight forward style which is a personal preference but I really dislike the lengthy , flowery motherhood we get from so many of the scouting services.

On the Canadiens specifically. He is definitely a Habs fan.. but we have no one in the Ottawa market that follows (as closely) the Sens prospects outside the NHL... in the AHL and starting out with the team like he does for the Habs. So my tweet saying Habs fans are lucky..I believe that.
Not any more than that.

This board didn't like the Tyler Boucher pick, how would they feel about taking Cutter Gauthier in the top 10? I like the player & agree he could be a stud, but there are also a number of smaller finesse players with skill that most would want over him I would think. I'd be fine with picking him & he will probably be more of a scorer than Boucher & he plays a style I like.

I'm sticking with David Jiricek RD though, Ottawa could use a top pairing RD, Jiricek was playing in a men's league before he got hurt, he has NHL size & can play a tough style & he can skate for a big guy. I don't think he is that far from being NHL ready & he should be available right around where Ottawa could be picking in that 5th to 10th range. Either would be a good pick IMO.

Perfect, thanks a lot. On the point about "not always about agreeing with a player in a particular ranking", I take your point, but I also feel like in a way the rankings are able to say more than words can. All of the "flowery motherhood" will never say as much as going out on a limb and ranking a player in a bold position. But I guess you're referring to the "why" and not the "that".

Anyways, for me you are the undisputed master of this stuff. Might be a couple other posters here I trust more when it comes to assessing prospects, but when it comes to knowing and "evaluating" the scouting services, you're the man.

I don't suppose you would be willing to bless us with kind of ranking, or at least a list of your most trusted sources?

Did that game just boost Slafkovsky to 1OA contention? Hard to see him not going top 2 at this point.

Tbh yes I get that we do need a 1C I think an elite top 4 D could somewhat mitigate the blow. Right now we sorta have a 2A/2B. Norris seems to be trending to a lower end 1C.

Unless we win the lottery we aren't getting a 1C.

Im somewhat torn we keep winning and we are creeping up to be stuck in mediocrity. We might be playing ourselves out of Slafkovsky,Kemell and moreso into the Lambert, Nazar tier

I don't think so, Norris & that top line which he is contributing to their success has been one of the best lines in the NHL this yr before the injuries. Why can't he stay as the #1 C if they continue to gell together & play well? They will also have numerous other options to mix up the lines when things aren't going well.

Pinto IMO has top line potential & could be the best two way centre soon if he can stay healthy. If they can create a good 2nd line with Stutzle, Pinto & a very good RW like a C. Brown that would take some of the load/pressure off the top line. Next they also have the prospects/players to make a good 3rd line & 4th line IMO which also should take the pressure off the top two lines. IMO they have all the makings & most of the prospects/players in place to be a better team soon, they are already playing so much better & beating very good NHL teams now.

People mention they need a top pairing defenceman & IMO Sandersn can be a top pairing D, but as long as Chabot is here he should be the top dog at LD. There are two RD studs in this yr's draft who most have in the top 10 & if Ottawa were to select one of them that would add another very good RD to their stockpile. Both have & are playing in men's leagues & doing well & both have NHL size already & wouldn't take that long to be in the NHL. If we look at the pipeline & who they could add at this coming draft, IMO they should have all the pieces in-house. And whatever they don't have they should have the assets to acquire it. I see potentially a very prosperous future for this team.
