I'd rather not make those mistakes to begin with. Good GMs take calculated risks, not by volume.

There's a reason he has to make so many trades; there's an inability to identify the right talent/fit.

He makes more moves than 2/3's of the GMs easily and most of them are lateral moves at best.
You should follow what other GMs do, this isn’t a Toronto only thing. Edmonton just gave up a 2nd and 3rd to slide back to spots and unload Kassian, Ottawa was willing to give up a high pick to unload Murray, Tampa took back a 2.5m ahl player to open up 4.2 next year.
It’s the name of the game, neither the Ritchie or mrazek deals will set this team back in a significant way and they create flexibility going into FA

They could unload Holl and or kerfoot more likely just Holl and go into tmr with 2-3 top 40 picks and a bunch more cap flexibility

2 in an offseason is too much. It was a rough summer for Dubas last year and i wonder if we were too quick to pull the trigger on both, but its a tough market when you play like they did here and dont have youth or productive Leaf seasons to offset.

Someone finally gambles on Lambert.
WPG feels like a crappy 80's infomercial.

Do you have consistent locker room issues?
Do you have issues drawing talent to your franchise?
Does your your team seem like they're stuck in the mud?

Well, I have a solution for you! For just the 31st pick, you can draft Brad Lambert!
But wait, there's more - His overbearing father comes with him too!

They got back a d man who projected to fetch and 3rd to unload Ritchie and slid back 13 spots on mrazek, both nothing burgers

A 2025 second

I.e. what we already burned on Ritchie

I just don’t find it a positive when the organization fails to target the right people and flush assets down to disappear them.

We have more cap to work with now which we can spend more aggressively later this month. But overall I don’t like this direction.

Owning mistakes and everything is all well and good but it definitely becomes a problem when the mistakes are piling up so much that Dubas is hemorrhaging draft capital to correct them. Not to mention this isn’t a team making deep runs every year.

So why are we supposed to have any confidence in the cap space being spent accordingly this time around?

Using Edmonton as your barometer...really? The bar that low?

Tampa has won 2 of the last 3 cups. Not even CLOSE to this situation.

late first round picks have the same value as early 2nd rounder...last year leafs drafted knies last year and probably goes in the first round if there was redraft.

again it will depend who leafs pick tomorrow, but moving 13 spots is not the end of the world.

You are right and I have said the sweetener was reasonable but we have been on the outside looking in for the past two drafts and we don't exactly have a great history of drafting outside the top round. Hell with our drafting outside the top 15, we probably miss at 25 and 38 so nothing lost I guess.
