I don’t want Dubas “betting” on anything. I want to see methodical building and stewardship of assets so we can have higher impact ELC’s giving us value as we try to win a championship.

Agree to disagree. This isn’t the way I want to see the team run.

There are no guarantees in the NHL, and when it comes to bets, Mrazek is a fairly low risk. Not taking bets effectively means we don't do anything... Because even drafting guys is taking a bet on a guy who statistically is not likely to turn out, and we are in a better position when it comes to that than most (who are not in a complete rebuild anyways).

Literally no GM in Dubas' position would simply try to hoard picks and "methodically build". Not since Matthews was drafted. That goes way above his head, and arguably above Shanny's too. The difference is you likely get a guy who takes a lot more stupid risks than Dubas has at any point in his career, and is incapable of building a prospect system that is as strong as ours is despite being in the middle of a contention window.

There is always a chance for even a good bet to blow up in your face. It happens to literally everyone. The thing is, that should not stop you from continuing to make good bets, or else you should not be a GM. Dubas makes more good bets than most GM's, and now it is on his team to meet their standards for once.

Signing a goaltender, obviously. Mrazek didn’t work out, big whoop. If he performed to his career normal he’s sent off this draft for a late pick, instead he cost a few picks to slide back, cry about it.
No, not just "signing a goaltender". Repeating a pattern of not being able to identify proper talent/team fits and using assets to remove the contract.

Kyle Dubas îs a Jekyll/Hyde GM; Either he hits a home run or he wastes assets removing multiple errors he makes. There's no middle ground.

People giving props to dubas is a joke

He got us in this predicament in the first place

And by the way we dont have any goalies lol
I don’t care for Dubas one way or the other—clearly his fancy stats background ain’t worth the paper his degree was written on—but he deserves props for moving on from Trashek. Just because he signed the guy doesn’t mean he should swallow the deal for the next 2 seasons.

What are you talking about? That’s literally the track record of every GM, at least they’re savvy enough to eradicate the mistake with minimal cost. Neither Ritchie or mrazek cost the team in a significant way, and they got to rent boosh for the post season.
Would you rather they roll back with mrazek and Ritchie and no flexibility?

Arizona is just never going to get better.... Poor Cooley.

When the first thing the analyst says is "6'7"" you just know exactly what comes next.

Arizona simply does not have the development team to pick guys like Geekie and Lamoureux right now.

I am happy though because picking a guy I had as a late 3rd rounder just means we get better talent at 38. Teams are doing us a lot of favours, with Kulich and maybe Mesar being the only ones who realistically should have been taken at 38.

I hope teams keep taking those pitfalls. Let a Howard or Luneau or Chesley drop to us
