Lekk or Gauthier.I'll be pumped if we take the 7th from Ottawa tomorrow should be multiple strong options left Jiricek or Lekk would be amazing to get both Wright and one of those.
Wouldn't that be great for morale if the owner overruled his brand new regime on their first ever draft pick.If I’m the owner of a team and my GM, Assistant GMs, scouts, invite me to help them make a selection, I’d fire them all on the spot.
There is no way they are picking Geoff’s brain on this. Just silly.
I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around. Geoff loves LARPing as a hockey mind and due to his overinflated ego thinks he has relevant input to give. This is a case of dorky daddy’s boy inviting himself to sit at the big table with the grown ups.If I’m the owner of a team and my GM, Assistant GMs, scouts, invite me to help them make a selection, I’d fire them all on the spot.

no lol...if it is true and MTL trades with OTT
does that mean they take slaf and then take Cutter at 7?
You pretty much just repeated what I said a few minutes agoif it is true and MTL trades with OTT

Well Kent Hughes was also suppose to miss the dinner with Cooley in Buffalo... and it feels like he's always downplayed Cooley since his Q&A the night of the draft results. I do find it interesting that we've heard there looking for the player with the "competitive spirit", he's mentioned Brad Marchand twice in interviews- not the biggest guy, not looking for the best player now, and that it's a 3 player photo finish just a couple days ago, even if they haven't spoke since Buffalo. So Cooley doesn't have anything scheduled with the Habs since Buffalo.
So either its the biggest smokescreen of all time and Cooley is their guy (unlikely) or its down to Wright and Slafkovsky,
With the amount of due diligence done on Wright vs. Slafkovsky. I think Shane Wright is the pick.
All I know is that my son was on the ice this morning with Connor Bedard....kid is ridiculously talented...would never say this but if Habs tank again next year I wouldn't be very angry.
Just to clarify....Bobby's scouts don't have us picking Slaf. It was simply a poll where 5 of 10 scouts he polled would take Slaf 1st. I'm fully supporting whatever HuGo decides as long as I never hear that Molson got involved.Agree about McKenzie, which kind of unnerves me because his scouts have us picking Slaf.
I know the process behind that was kinda flawed but I'd feel a lot better about them choosing Wright if he would have confirmed it.
That’s certainly plausible. The way Hughes said he was approaching the draft, did not sound like a linear process — there could be multiple moving parts that may lead to unexpected moves. He’s chasing value in whatever form it becomes available.I could only see them picking Slaf if they have a deal in place for lets say PLD or they think another center could be picked later that's comparable or close to Wright.
Hopefully not, would be Wright + Lekkerimaki probablyif it is true and MTL trades with OTT

Just watched the TSN video. Dreger said nobody knows what the Habs are doing and simply said people are speculating that Molson could get involved with the pick. That's not news at all.
Surely Molson will let his hockey ops dept led by his brand new VP and GM duo pick their guy after all the time and energy this group has put into this pick.
Could also mean they try a follow up move from 7 to 5 (Fletcher the donkey) or higher.if it is true and MTL trades with OTT

Meeting with Slaf the morning of tells me it’s him or he can at least sway them. Super disappointing. Another euro bust or average okay meh player
Disaster waiting to happen. Shades of Katz and Yakupov…. Oilers scouts had voted 7 to 2 for Murray and were overruled by the Oilers brass:
“ Lots of people in Edmonton believe that owner Darryl Katz had some significant input into the decision to draft Nail Yakupov first overall in 2012 rather than opt for the safer choice, defenceman Ryan Murray, who would have filled a greater organizational need. ”

Did Gauthier have enough chemistry with Cooley for that to be a 1-7 pick worth hoping for?Lekk or Gauthier.
Maybe they are letting him know they won’t be taking him.Meeting with Slaf the morning of tells me it’s him or he can at least sway them. Super disappointing. Another euro bust or average okay meh player

Yes. On the flip side, Murray is still a body in the NHL. Yakupov has been gone for years. They were supposed to meet yesterday.
They were wrong either way.
Gauthier is a goner by 6. I'd bet on it.Did Gauthier have enough chemistry with Cooley for that to be a 1-7 pick worth hoping for?
