I don't care if people are mad. This is all about building the best team. If we can get a pick that land us Lane Hutson and Logan Cooley that would be huge.Eh, trading the first overall pick when the draft is in Montreal is gonna make people mad.
Damned if you do/don't type situation.
For sure, our terrible development system didn’t help....people forget that Kotkaniemi was a long-term project, Timmins even supposedly said as much to Bargain Bin...yes, it was probably a mistake to take him over Tkachuk, but the plan wasn't to rush him into the NHL immediately...Bargain's need to "just make the Playoffs and then anything can happen" screwed KK's development; we'll never know if he would have been the "right" pick or not because of disastrous mismanagement from the beginning...
Rangers are looking more than solid next year. Imagine if their under 25 year olds take develop leap? Laf had a strong finish to his year including playoffsSince there is a clear pattern of hiring who you know (Gorton, Hughes, Bobrov, Lecavalier, St-Louis) I think they have a clear bias for Cooley. I hope they take Wright if he is deemed the BPA by their scouts.
MTL really likes Cooley, they also really like Slaf, and they really like Wright.I was thinking if MTL really does love Cooley and with NJ wanting Slaf so bad, and of how much Arizona needs a win and a reason for people to attend their University Arena next year... AZ getting "touted #1 Shane Wright" might be worth something to them.
Too many picks is never a problem….you can package 3 picks for 1 if you’d like, or add a pick to a player you are trading for cap purposes…..they are valuable assets.Perhaps Arizona likes Cooley more than Wright? If Habs like Cooley take him at #1. Why risk losing him for a 3rd? We’ve got too many picks as it is.
I'm not saying he shouldn't do it because it will make people mad, I'm responding to a poster who said he thinks Hughes is trying to take the "easy way out" by trading down because it won't make people mad if he chooses someone controversial.I don't care if people are mad. This is all about building the best team. If we can get a pick that land us Lane Hutson and Logan Cooley that would be huge.
A Petry trade would quench the thirst for actionI’m happy with whoever they pick. I was impressed by how well Hughes handled his trade deadline negotiations and the results he obtained.
I’m hoping to see some action before the draft. Too many rumours and speculation for something not to happen.
The thing I like the most is that he's doesn't appear to questioning himself.Considering all the scrutiny Wright has been through and how he's handled himself through it, he's well suited for this market. He strikes me as a guy who can handle the scrutiny and media pressure. Similar to Suzuki, you dont see much panic in Wright.
I also think if the return is worth it, people would cheer. The way people are describing Habs fans is a bit too general in my opinion. Those who will be there (ala those who would be willing to shell out money to watch a draft) will likely not be a casual fan. If the return is worth it I dont think the crowd would boo. Conversely if Hughes doesnt pick Wright I dont think the crowd would boo either.I don't care if people are mad. This is all about building the best team. If we can get a pick that land us Lane Hutson and Logan Cooley that would be huge.
Well, he might be drafted by the Habs so might as well burn him to the ground. The main board draft thread on Wright is absolute garbage oh my god what happened to this forum.
At least we have HFHabs.
People are just mad period….I'm not saying he shouldn't do it because it will make people mad, I'm responding to a poster who said he thinks Hughes is trying to take the "easy way out" by trading down because it won't make people mad if he chooses someone controversial.
People will get mad if he does this too.
Exactly what one would expect from smart people. And for the first time in a long time, we have them.I'm so tired of hearing that the Habs need to make a big splash because the draft is in Montreal. Just make smart hockey decisions!
Which is the exact mindset you need in this market (let alone being a 1st overall pick for the team). The thing I like the most is that he's doesn't appear to questioning himself.
People can see it as cockiness or brashness all they want but I don't want a player who's confidence wobbles with the wind. His game has probably never been more scrutinized than it is right now and he's just like "yeah, okay, I still know I'm good and should be first."
That came up with a number of the habs picks in the last couple of decades, multiple GMs. Lots of "he's big, if he can fix X and maybe Y he'll be a monster" comments as they looked for the next Chara. There aren't many players who make big steps late in their career, especially with an organization that was almost hostile to the idea of player development. For sure, our terrible development system didn’t help.
The point is more about KK’s skating/balance issues being expected to vanish over time ‘’and then what an amazing player he’d become’’.
This kind of turnaround happens 1 in a 1 000 or so.
A better development plan could have turned KK into a more useful player but his upside was just never the same as others with more assets to their game.
For all we know, Arizona is planning to take local boy Cutter Gauthier with their #3.IF their choice is Cooley and they’re sure NJD is taking Slaf, I’d swap #1 and #3 this year with AZ in exchange for an optional swap of 1st pick in 2023.
Don’t think much else makes sense (to trade down from 1st OA). No Chychrun (always injured).
