If Habs select wright and then Devils pass on Cooley, that would be a sizable mistake. Everyone always says draft BPA but this time around we are suppose to just discredit that because Slaf is a winger that they need. Lowkey Cooley is better than Hischer and close to if not on par with Jack Hughes. So draft him and trade Hischer for more assets than what you'd get for the 2OA as he's a proven commodity. Imo if Cooley goes 2OA, he'd be the 2nd/3rd best 2OA since 2010 no cap
If Cooley is as good as Jack Hughes then there should be no discussion about who the Habs should pick.

Jack Hughes vs Wright?

Potentially better in the future. I'm leaning no cause Jack Hughes is a beast. Hischer is the worst of the three and it isn't close. Although he's still good. If I'm jersey, I draft Cooley, and in the next year find a trade partner for Hischer and bag myself a young a elite winger/D

Yup…maybe Arizona trades down for Cutter:dunno:

Trade down where? He's ranked 5th by Bob. 3rd is perfectly reasonable.

Reminds me of the Oilers not going with one of the 'Sams' hype and drafting Leon between Reinhart and Bennett.

This is getting out of hand. Hughes is bonafide a #1 center. Wright is compared to Hischier but is being projected as a #2 center. Cooley is ranked below Wright on most lists (not all) and is now being annointed a better center than Hischier?

You're severely under-rating Hischier. If Wright was guaranteed to be as good as Hischier when he's the same age, there wouldn't be any debate right now among NHL scouts.

Well it sure looks like no matter who we draft, there will be an entire range of emotions from fans.
Pretty rare for a team picking #1.

(I will be the lower left guy no matter what)

Maybe Philly really wants Cooley, and we know Seattle loves Nemec….

It’s just an idea man, like us trading down two spots.

Personally, I’m taking Wright with the 1st overall and that’s where it ends.

Wright put up the same PPG in a better league while having a super disappointing year. At the same age wright is better than hischer was. The same people who project wright as a #2 C also project Nemec as a top pairing D and still have him lower than 2nd line players. They're a bunch of dumb f****

id prefer Wright falling to the Devils instead of Cooley but Why not just keep all three centers and try to win the cup ala 2009 Penguins?

Crosby/Malkin/Staal

Hughes/Hischier/Cooley or Wright

I'm a big supporter of having a team filled with all different kinds of toolsets. Hughes is a playmaker, Hischier is a two way, Wright brings something different as he is more of a shooter while Cooley would be another playmaker.
-------

I know you Habs fans want to get another early 1st round pick but any thought about getting the coyotes late 1sr round and early 2nd round picks? 27, 32, 34, 43.

Montreals 33OA +62OA and possibly a late rounder to seal the deal.

for

Coyotes 26OA

Would definitely make the home crowd cheer having another 1st rounder.

I think the 33OA is highly valuable. Someone(s) is gonna slide out the 1st Rd. Habs management will have a whole day to think over who they can take with that pick as they'll have first bite again. For example if someone like Brad Lambert or Mesar drop, Habs can snipe them before anyone else has the chance to. Picks will obviously be included in potential trades as Habs have 14 (a bit too many) but I'm curious to see which active players that other teams target on the Habs. Dallas and Petry maybe. Anderson+ and Philly maybe.

The better league? The Q seems to keep winning Memorial Cups.

It all depends on whether Wright elevates his engagement. If he plays as soft as he did in OHL playoffs, he'll get eaten alive in the NHL. He has the talent and tools but it's very hard to coach grit.

Yep. He's the one with the most uncommon statistics (advanced or traditionnal) for that high of a pick. Both Cooley and Wright have at least top 3 pick stats.
We also have no luck with actually developing or working on prospects. I know its a new regime and all but hockey gods and what not. What we need is a kid that will be good regardless of his developement path. Just a stud. We never find these types of players, Suzuki did it, we need another one

Interesting.

The 'he won't be in the spotlight in Minnesota' take is kinda weird imo. Do they know it's one of he most prestigious hockey program?? You can probably ice an entire team with alumnis.

Yeah but he won't be in Montreal or Laval. I doubt you'll see too many montrealers making the trip to Minnesota to see Cooley.
