Intresting that Norway won over Slovakia with 5-3 and dominated the game. Norway is for sure better than people think.

Good result for Norway, but I'm not sure how much you can read into it given the Slovak roster at this tournament. Slovak coach used the tourney to see players that had not played much if at all for the u20 team before and given their performance I don't believe we will be seeing too many of those players on the actual Slovak WJC team.

I think Norway is exactly of the strength people think they are, especially considering things discussed in the previous posts. They won 1/3 games in the tournament.

and what is the argument that latvia and belarus have better teams than norway? if they have, its not by much.

Watching through our U20 games.

I think coach intends for Martin Urbanek to be the #1D, which will be an absolute disaster. The thought is that he should be in the mold of Luis Lindner. But Lindner was blazing fast and in his U20 year he was relatively strong as well. Urbanek is much smaller but also slow and not strong. The Urbanek-Mitrovic pair got pinned in their own zone more than any other line and it wasn't solely because of Mitrovic. Yes, if he's given enough time on the blue line without pressure he can threaten to score. But any other scenario you'd prefer a defenseman who wasn't always getting the puck taken away from him right in front of the net or losing battles behind the net or having to sit back in your own zone as the opposing team passes in circles. Because the better the opposition, the more this stuff is punished. For example, the only goal against Belarus was very much against the run of play. Urbanek lost the puck in front of the net, Austria was pinned in their zone for like 30-40 seconds, a lazy D to D pass from Belarus that Wallner worked hard to tip sent him and Tschofen the other way on the counterattack and they score. And it looks good. "+1". Don't kid yourself. Against Canada, Finland, Czech Republic, Germany, that puck stays in our zone another 20 seconds and then ends up in the net. It will probably be a long day at the office no matter what but the answer is not to place a sieve on the ice for 20 minutes a game in hopes that in maybe one game you get a nice shot from the point.

I think this is the tallest team Austria that I've ever seen, which I like. But ironically, I think this might be one of the lightest teams as well, or at least per height, obviously the team is young so there is that, but the added size feels like a missed opportunity given how skinny everyone is. And you could say all our game-breakers are missing, but there was also a lack of apparent game-breaking skill in the lineup. The average skill level of every player has gone up but at least for that tournament we didn't have anyone with exceptional skill.

Hungary:

Have 1 good player in Swedish u18. Rest should be from Erste Liga which is kind of underated as a league. Top player seems to be Márk Schlekmann.

Kazaksthan:

Have 3 players who played some games in KHL. Most players will be from Kazaksthan League.
Ansar Shaikhmeddenov and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan is the top players.

Its a shame TSN is not broadcasting this tournament. Its a intresting tournament. Heck i would want even SVT to broadcast it. At best we can only hope for crappy free streams or 1-2 games uploaded on youtube.

It's only not available in the countries where someone has purchased the broadcasting rights. So in this case, if you aren't in Belarus and maaaybe Latvia you are probably good.

I hope so. That was not the case the last time. I had to use proxy, but that did not work either.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but they are definately better than they have been for a long time. If the general consensus is in line with that I guess you are right. Barring special teams they where a very even match for the three A pool teams. The other teams did maybe not have their best teams available, but Norway was also missing Ole Bjorvik Holm, Leo Halmrast and probably Calle Spaberg Olsen if he can find his groove. For the lack of tournaments below world junior during covid these players have spent little time together, and expect them to progress further under the new management towards the Div 1 tourney. Belarus seems like a clear favourite, but we'll see. Definately gonna watch if it is possible.

I've tried guessing the new link numbers, but without any success this year :D
That would be quite difficult because the numbers look very random.
Anyway, judging from this they stopped using that directory after 2020... Hope to be wrong.

This year they apparently are random. In previous years I and (my fellow weirdos :D) have managed to access the pages just by figuring out the numbers.

No. One of the guys here could still access that format. I think it was @Maverick41

@ozo is right, there seems to be really no rhyme or reason to the numbers, and the index page with the links to all the tournaments of the year does not seem to exist beyond the page for 2020 (see link below).
IIHF - ICE HOCKEY / 2019 CHAMPIONSHIPS

So, after initially just posting the few tournament pages I had found, I decided to systematically search for the rest, and I think I have found pretty much all of them (see links below). I have not posted the Women's tournaments (have only found a couple so far). If anybody is interested in those, just let me know and I will add them and look for the rest.

Are we planning on having a separate thread for even lower tiers tha 1A? I think they won't have enough interest as all tournaments take place at the same time, so I'll put it here that 'future superstar'' Iguchi is not on Japan's preliminary roster. Almost feels that he has retired at this point because he has not made an appearance anywhere since 2019-20 season.

Im happy as long as we are not relegated. These coming 3-5 years looks really slim for Denmark in terms of talent and it is worrysome. There are a couple of notable players to look out for like Stenbakken and Almquist, but the rest is not very impressive.

Yeah i think you are right. Mods should emerge the 2 threads into one.

Speaking of Japan...Sato, Ando and Isogai, Iguchi (if he comes back)...thats 4 very good player for this level.

Eliteprospects have updated the tournament page. Judging by the numbers of players for each team it looks like only Kazakhstan and Norway are close to the final rosters. IIHF used to be quicker in presenting the teams than now, so I guess Eliteprospect is the best aggregated source.
Norway is similar to the Lillehammer team but with some suprising additions in Stian Solberg and Sole Ryen while Leo Halmrast who was back in the lineup for Modo yesterday and Calle Spaberg Olsen who played well in the 1st line for Vålerenga last week are left out.
