BPA. Yannetti said it before, if the best play available is a defenseman, you take the defenseman even if you drafted one the round before. It could also be the bpa on their list was probably drafted before him numourous time and he was next. .

Yeah I'm good with him being a left shot center, I don't care about that as much as most.

I care about "

A lot of Hughes’ issues stem from him not yet being physically developed, even for a late born 2003 player. He is still quite slight and because of this, he is not consistently able to take advantage of the opportunities that his skill level could afford him. He can be easily pushed off the puck, especially when attacking the middle. However, Hughes’ does show terrific flashes of being able to extend plays with his feet and hands, and when he does get time and space, he shows his skill as a playmaker and a topflight offensive play driver"

I care about iffy shot, slow feet, and past injuries and that a lot of others had him ranked a lot lower. Could we really not have gotten him with a third, was he really BPA, etc.

It just smells like yet another project but without the massive upside.

Feels like they could have just traded the pick frankly. "projects as a bottom six C" is like the last f***ing thing I wanted to see this draft.

What goalie was worth selecting in the second round? Want another Christopher Gibson? Some people need to give up focusing on what they need immediately.
Agreed -- there was no goalie worth that draft spot. I meant trading for a recently drafted goalie prospect (just not worded properly).
Need wise -- yeah i can't help myself wanting us to get a big power forward bruiser type.

I recommend folks who haven’t go listen to Yanetti’s interview with Jesse the other day. He talks at length about the mistakes the Kings made in the past drafting for need, the reality that late 1st and later round picks make NHL impacts 3-4 years after their selection, and that drafting BPA is the way to go if you can’t move up.

I think Blake and Yanetti want to build a team that is continually replenished by its pool. Yanetti also spoke about how trades like the Sekera trade killed us when we still could’ve been contending, and how not picking BPA in one particular draft (for a Russian) robbed us of a star.

Kings working on a trade? Moving back?

The pick just changed to the Lightning. Kings traded the pick. They got their Hughes. Draft over :sarcasm:

It's funny how he danced around that one calling it "geography" as the reason
or something to that extent.

Brennan goes one pick before Kings. I hope the guys they are selecting are guys they truly want and love.

You have to admit, it is kind of funny they have like all the centers in the league :P If you want a center, you gotta trade with the Kings now...

Maybe we have a trade in the works to move out some of our center glut?

Do we still consider Vilardi and Turcotte centers at this point?

We have a ton of center prospects. Yea some can play wing but man we have a lot.

I think either that, or they are just going to develop them all and see whatever sticks and they feel they can always move out whoever doesn't. I think they still consider Turcotte a top 9 center in the league, but Vilardi has probably player his last game as a center in the NHL without an emergency injury situation occurring.
