I love that he's 6'8" AND going to play college hockey. They only play weekends, and it gives him a ton of time to train and recover to fill out that frame.

It is hilarious that he's also a righty though.

I closely follow IFK and Otto Salin could potentially be the steal of draft for you guys. His skills have first round upside. Excellent vision for young defenseman, skates well. He flew under many radar after sustaining a pretty vicious check to the head from John Quenneville in Champions Hockey League game versus Zug that pretty much finished Otto's season. Quenneville got a two game suspension for it.
Otto should be expected to be part of the regular d-man rotation for HIFK. Potentially very high upside here.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but this draft feels like a giant swing and a miss to me
We'll see...we all loved last year's draft but I don't think anyone from last year really improved their stock this past season but we probably still love it anyways.

It's just such a different deal when you aren't drafting in the Top 5 or 10 and then at the top of the 2nd as well. Toss in that the Kings were making so many picks until last year and this is inevitably pretty boring.

It's easy to get upset about more centers but none of these guys project to be in the NHL in the next three years. Take the BPA and see what happens.

What opposing forwards will see as they enter the zone

this draft seems like it's aimed at the long view with some raw development type guys. not exciting, but that's usually the case when you don't have a 1st rounder. Adding in Fiala -- i'm pretty happy.
As to the rest of the guys, good luck to them all. Develop, get bigger/stronger, etc. and see you in 3-5+ years

I absolutely love reading this about Sparkes:

He’s got an edge to his game, too, and isn’t afraid to use it. “He is nasty,” said his coach, Rich Ricci, “If there were more fights in the OJHL, he would destroy guys.”

Yeah, we have too many bodies at the pro level with a ton more coming soon potentially (Chromiak, Simontaival, Nouisainen, etc). We needed to replenish the next generation.

Sounds like a Chara-sized Kurtis MacDermid... Sounds good to me!

a goalie?

Brennan?
Hildeby?

i like Ivanov

but you're an idiot Ziggy, i simply said goalie prospects are a thing too, especially since we have none

and your response is disgruntle disgruntle whiny whiny lovey blakey dovey sad face sad face

detach yourself from the GM and just analyze the team

that's it

dont answer i dont care, enjoy your day
You’re the :eek::eek::eek: who likes to bitch like a cranky ex-wife. Go make more idiotic posts on the trade forum.

I mean, it isn't exactly the year of the goaltenders... If they really needed one, they could find better prospects to trade for or wait until next season when they have 8 picks and there is a better crop available. In the end, they have made their bed with Petersen who is now signed for better or worse. They have time and goalie isn't exactly the most expensive position to address with a gun to your head.

it isn't the year of anything, but when you re-sign Villalta after such a pisspoor performance, it's an indicator that perhaps having a little bit more depth is useful, no rush, but the sooner the better

the move to sign Villalta in a year of NO RUSHES, sounds odd... drafting no goalie to feed that need is odd as well

maybe he's planning to trade for goalie prospects soon who knows

but ok

Since we still have yet to determine if the 2017 draft was a 'giant swing and a miss', we'll can revisit your post in like...I don't know, 2027?

I was wondering if they would trade back in to even out the prospect years. Another winger. 6'6", pretty damn tall winger at that...
