If the Hawks could retain $2.5m, I would love to have him on the Avalanche.

He’d slot in on the second pairing and with Makar as the #1 RHD, he wouldn’t need to be “the guy” and could just be a big, minute munching, two-way beast.

I also think Denver is one of the few places he would waive that NMC for. Born in Denver, his dad is Assistant GM for the Nuggets, and it’s a good team.

Avs would have interest. Without any clear Mittlestadt upgrade he should probably be the Avs #1 target.

Would need at least 2M retained, and send some money over (depending on retention amount), but there's probably a deal to be made there.

Avs will take a guy like Kurashev too as part of the package.
...who'd the Avs pair him with??...Girard??...not a lot of defensive acumen there, imo...

Yes Girard. And I think you're underrating both Jones' and Girard's defensive acumen. Jones is playing #1 minutes right now, players look a lot different in more sheltered roles. Definitely and upgrade on Manson, and ideally he shifts down to the 3rd pair.

There's a lot of interesting trading options with Chicago give your glut of talented young D. Avs have the pieces to get something done IMO

...eh, I agree he's probably an upgrade on Manson; that guy always looks like he just chases hits around the ice and then gets hurt when he hits someone...

Pens can take a shot at him. And Karlsson can be traded more easily by the hawks because of his contract.

Karlsson for Jones + 2nd (no retention either side)

Hawks can then retain 3 or 4M and trade Karlsson for a 1st+

So Hawks basically save 5M, get out of Jones contract, and move from a 2nd (albeit a high one) into the first round.

Pens get a 2nd instead of a 1st, but don’t have to retain and maybe Jones can be a great player for us

Chicago's GM watching multiple Avs games recently and having Scouts at like 6 straight Avs and Eagles (AHL) games suggests there's a deal here waiting to be made between Chicago and Colorado.

It also just makes too much sense for both teams:

Jones' NMC makes him hard for Chicago to move, but Denver is a place he'd likely waive for.

From the Avs perspective CMac likes to have 5 good Dmen for the playoffs, but right now he only has 4, and Manson is injured a lot and a year from UFA. They need a 2RHD both right now and also in the future.

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones
xxxx - Manson

That's a cup contender D group.

Just need $2m-2.5m retained to make it feasible.

Something indeed seems to be brewing but Jones' NMC makes it more like the Hawks are moving Teravainen, Bertuzzi, Foligno, or any other player that doesn't have a NMC

Hawks are not retaining $4.75M for 5 years

$1.5-2M at most

What you propose is not realistic nor would Panthers do it

Also, the biggest issue with Jones is his full NMC
Chicago either needs to bite the bullet and keep Jones for the balance of his contract or bite the bullet and retain 50% to move him off the roster for a modest, at best, return.

Call me crazy.... but with the cap going crazy... I think the Blackhaws could find a taker for Jones at full hit.

Now, it probably woudn't be a team that he'd waive to go to... which of course brings in the challenge.

That's not relevant. Seth Jones would sprint across the prairies if he could get traded to Colorado. He's dying to get out Chicago, he's made it abundantly clear. He's even from Colorado. Stop bringing up his NMC.

You manage to be wrong with amazing consistency. No matter which team you pretend to be an expert of.
Jones at 4.75m per would bring back a very good return.
Chicago would never do it though.

Actually with the big bump in the cap and Chicago having AND ADDING so many entry level deals the prospects of moving him decrease.
They need his cap hit.

Jones @ 7,25M for Miles Wood, Ivan Ivan, Oskar Olausson and Avs 2026 1st.
Retaining that long on Jones and taking back Miles Wood? I'd rather have something like Zellers than the 2026 1st. Zellers you maybe see in 2027. That 2026 first you probably don't see that player until 2029.

If he can heal up and the Blackhawks will retain, Florida could really use him. Maybe another bottom feeder could get a prospect or pick to retain a million or so too.

Sam Bennett, spencer knight for Seth Jones @ 6.75-7.25 and Lukas Reichel or something around that.

Knight is a cap dump with upside. Depends what you value him at I guess but Bennett won’t be back I don’t think and Florida has a very thin backend. A healthy Jones wouldcboost it immediately.

Id take him straight up for Karlsson or Graves, no retention, no other assets. Hawks could then flip Karlsson to a playoff team.

Too bad hes a right shot, I think the Flames will pick up a lefty with a decent cap for cheap, they need someone to pair with Weegar.

stephenson(2031)(6.25)+grubauer(2027)(5.9)=12.15
for
jones(2030)(9.5)+mikheyev (2026)(4.037) = 13.537

Essentially shuffling around bad contracts.

For Blackhawks
Get out of Jones' deal without retention. Pick up a center to put behind bedard. The contract for stephenson is going to age horribly but the annual average is quite a bit lower than jones. Grubauer is the price for getting out of Jones' deal without retention. Can bury him or give him a shot to try and rebuild his value.

For Kraken:
The stephenson deal is not great. Its not in the jones tier but its close. This allows seattle to give Wright a top 6 opportunity while also opening up a spot for Catton for when he is ready. Essentially it moves the bad contract from center to rd where the bad contract can be slightly more justified since there is a need. Mikheyev is there to balance salaries but allows seattle to get cap relief one season sooner.

Everyone feel free to hate it now.
