2022 Draft Discussion (after the trade)

Guess we no longer have to worry about who the Kings will be selecting in the first round. Time to focus on the second round options. Now that is where they could take a gamble on a Russian who drops out of the first round.
No first round pick now
Unless they trade Walker and/or package to move up and repeat what they did last year. Which is possible with our cupboard

It was fun learning about all the first round picks

saves one night of tv viewing at least?

I was so happy to finally be able to attend a draft when it was in LA in 2010. And naturally the Devils traded their first rounder away. But it was still fun to heckle. When the Rangers picked Dylan McIlrath, I stood up and cheered. The folks around me were a little confused and then I excitedly said "they screwed up!"

And who knows, maybe Blake has another draft day deal up his sleeve?

The Kings got a great player for the #19 pick and Faber. Let's keep the Draft discussion going......we currently have 5 more picks. For pick #51 I am hoping the Kings like Hutson, Warren, Lindgren Jr. or Trikozov depending on who is available at that pick. Rounds 3 to 6 rankings seem all over the place. Hard to guess who will fall......

I was only getting into the 19 range picks....Pickering, Ohgren, McGroarty, Bichsel, Howard, Snuggerud...maybe Miroshnichenko falling. I now, really don't like to begin to study up on the 40+ range prospects. I'll be happy to give up 19 OA for Fiala. Yannetti and his staff must be a little bummed.

FWIW, I'm not a big fan of Hutson. Not that it's impossible the Kings take him (clearly I'm no scout).

But it's definitely a new challenge to try to figure out who the Kings would like and take in the 2nd round. It opens up a LOT after, say, every 10 or so picks. There are potential fallers, players that are rated several spots below your current position, but you know they won't be available at your next pick, etc.

And my biggest challenge when writing my articles is I want to be able to focus on a prospect in a non-highlight reel capacity. So, trying to get good footage is a challenge. I am going to watch some video on Grudinin and Sykora to get a gauge on them and if it's worth writing about them next.

Man, I'm sorry I missed meeting you at the 2010 draft. It was fun to be there.

We were off to the far side where we could see the name placards being set up to put on the draft board, so we knew who was being picked before it was announced. Incidentally, we were sitting right in front of Charlie Coyle when we saw his name being put on the placard prior to the Sharks pick. My buddy turned to him and said, "Dude, congrats. You're going to the Sharks." And the poor kid looked at us rather confused, because he didn't see where we were looking.

In retrospect, I wish we had kept our mouth shut and just let him learn it organically with everyone else.

Coyle and his family were the party in front of us at Fleming's after the draft (Shea Weber was right behind us). LA was my first draft and I've gone four more times (2011/15/17/19). Unfortunately the Devils keep landing in the lottery.

Would have loved to have gone this year, but the ticket prices skyrocketed with the hometown club having the #1 pick.

I kinda wish I had stayed in Staples for all seven rounds but I ducked out midway through the 5th because USA had its World Cup elimination match at the same time.

2011 Draft was great since my buddy and I managed to sneak into the player's section. He was talking crap about Mika Zibanejad not realizing he was sitting in the next row. Good times.

I'm hoping Vegas, San Jose, and/or Seattle get to host soon, that'd be an easy flight. Maybe since it's an event that tends to lose money for the host, Anaheim hasn't seemed to have interest in hosting.

Sooo 51st eh? Um Sykora, Trikozov, Hutson, Warren, Kyrou, Bystedt? Maybe try and package to early 2nd if Miroshnichenko falls to it? I’m guessing maybe they try next season for a goalie now, try and get home run picks with what they got.

What about Victor Neuchev at 51? I’m not super thrilled about taking Russians, but I think is going to be a good one.

Did a few more and

(51) Jani Nyman, LW
(86) Marek Hejduk, LW
(116) Cole Knuble, RW
(148) Ales Cech, LD
(180) Pier-Olivier Roy, LD

(51) Gleb Trikozov, C
(86) Viktor Neuchev, LW
(116) Jordan Dumais, RW
(148) Pier-Olivier Roy, LD
(180) Maddox Fleming, RW

(51) Jani Nyman, LW
(86) Lucas Edmonds, RW
(116) Jordan Dumais, RW
(148) Maxim Barbashev, LW
(180) Ales Cech, LD

Can still do some damage

Thoug I imagine the Kings will package a couple of those and/or other prospects to do a little more near the 2nd/3rd. I bet we don't make more than 4 picks.

Nyman and Bystedt seem like almost designed for this Kings team. If they're both there at 51 I sorta expect one of them to be taken...unless there's a big drop from someone else they like.

I still feel like they take a goalie with 86 or 116 depending on who is there.

I also agree with your last point a lot. They're going to move into the 70-100 range for another pick there.

My results:

(51) Gleb Trikozov, C
(86) Adam Sykora, RW
(116) Elias Pettersson, LD
(148) Graham Sward, LD
(180) Theo Wallberg, LD

Don't know if Trikozov drops that far, but if he's around at 51, I'd take a gamble on a player with that level of talent.

Move up to get a big/tough LHD like Pickering. Then pick a Goalie next. Get drunk.
I am doing that in reverse order

Get drunk (14 beers and some Southern Comfort) and then go on twitter and @All The Kings Men after each pick and tell him who I think they should draft, then he blocks me and I send carrier pigeons to his house with catchy phrases from 80's movies

“Sorry, Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower.”
“Snakes. Why’d it have to be snakes?”
“I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.”
"I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."
"Aw, this is the worst lookin' hat I ever saw! What, when you buy a hat like this, I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? Oh, it looks good on you, though."

then he gets an anti-aircraft system for my pigeons and I will start sending carrier possums

I will even thrown in an O'possum just to keep him on his toes

was thinking about Thomas the other day. Thought he was going to push for a spot two seasons ago, thought he was captain material.
What happened?

Double shoulder surgery. He finally started looking like himself at the end of the season and played well.
