Prospect Info: 2022 Draft: 3OA - Logan Cooley, C

Fun to see the excuses come out re: the shitty attendance.

We were told the Coyotes could move to any market in Canada and Canadians would drive through a four-hour blizzard and pack the house every night because that is what a real hockey market does.

Not sure I would read too much into attendance yet.

Hottest part of the summer, Hockey Canada embroiled in a scandal about the world juniors, exhibition games...

Oh the excuses are valid, just fun to see the table turned.

Right? "oh, we're so burned out on hockey ... can't be bothered to spend all this money when the weather's perfect watching two teams no one cares about"

Who does *that* sound like? In March. In a certain state with perfect weather after their own team is out of playoff contention every year. Which recently has been November rather than March.

We knew this already but it bears repeating, Cooley’s hockey IQ is off the charts. A joy to watch every shift. Coaches dream.

2nd Michigan attempt from Cooley.

He just has that puck magnet factor. If it's in his area, he usually has control and makes a play on the puck. He finds a way to get a lot of touches per game.

Yeah Wright's behavior is really inconsistent. One example (there are many) is when he looks gutted to be passed over a few times -- but when he talks to the team / press about playing for Seattle he's like, "this worked out perfectly, couldn't be happier" which... I mean it obviously is not true. Sure you have to say good things about your new team but you can do it more authentically, for example something like, "yeah it would've been nice to go first overall and it doesn't feel great to fall so far, but Ron Francis is a hall of famer and I'm excited to be playing in Seattle, seems like a great opportunity to really build something there with guys like Matty Beniers." Just something that a normal person would say or feel in that situation.

Wright just seems off. Doesn't mean he won't be amazing (lots of high achievers have weird personalities), either way hope he has a great career just not against us in the playoffs.

On the other hand Cooley's so excited to be part of the Yotes that all he can do is keep repeating, "Let's go" for the next 10 or 15 minutes when he meets everybody. He just seems a lot more real, really glad we were able to draft him
None of this is mutually exclusive. People react in different ways. We're just f***in categorizing and psychoanalyzing everything a f***ing 18yo does. Could easily have just been that he initially was upset and then excited to prove everything wrong with Seattle, who doesn't have a 1C anyways (yes Beniers exists but either of those guys could turn out to be 1C or not)

Do explain
I wish I was better at video...skating style and vision for starters. Watching Cooley I see the quick give and go play that Crosby has made a career of. Great 1st three steps to get past the defender. Low, wide stance. Really active stick.

He plays hockey and name starts with a C. Crosby is best player of last 20 plus years and now apparently there are 2 of him at World Jr's?
I am not comparing overall ability...if he is half as good as Crosby it is a WIN.

His playing style is reminiscent of Crosby.

There was earlier discussion of who he reminds people of. IMO he plays the game like Crosby.
