You know I love my Swedes but my alarm bells are staring to go off with this guy. I did a little looking at him a few weeks ago when I was bored and I see he has battled some injuries and what not. But my biggest concern is that he has not gotten a wiff of the SNL so far. We own his rights until 2026. He was taken in the 5th and that is when you gamble and take projects

The one thing I can not figure out is why he is stuck as the back of the Swedish AHL. All I can think of is that the injuries he suffered has knocked him down the depth charts as he has bounced between a few different organizations.

It's probably a little too early to either write the kid off or pencil him into a starting goaltender position, just saying.

He's just concerned about the development of a goalie drafted in the 5th round. Even though they're playing well.

Not a lot of spots in the SHL and most teams go with established goalies. This is also the first season he's looked like he truly belongs in the pro ranks, partly due to injuries, but he was always a project and not seen as a top goalie in his age group as a junior player but rather a guy with a lot of upside. Hopefully this is him starting to show that upside.
Also, the swedish second tier is a pretty good euro league, not all that far off the finnish top tier.
The trickiest part when grading his performance is the fact his team has been so good defensively that it's difficult to know just how much his numbers are inflated by that. His consistency is impressive for such a young goalie, very few weak goals but because of how good his team is defensively it's hard to get a handle how he deals with chaos and high pressure situations, making the big saves. And you need that to truly assess NHL upside.

He's the backup likely just because of his age.

btw, Karlskoga won 4-2. Jonsson with a .909 save %. Both goals against were during penalty kills, one 5-4 and one 5-3.

I mean, it’s a pretty equal split, and his numbers are much better than the other guy. That doesn’t seem like it should be a huge concern. Especially when the Swedes tend to play vets over rookies, even when the rookie is better

BIK has the best GK pair in the league, and in any case, it is not that common to see 20 year old's in the SHL.
For info, Samuel is now loaned to Farjestad BK (2nd in SHL currently), for today, as backup for tonight's game. I would be surprised if he did not play regularly play in the SHL next year.




He is #1 in SV% and GAA in Hockeyallsvenskan, and just came off of 4 consecutive shutouts. Not that I have expectations to be honest, but I think he is doing better than what could be expected for a 5th rounder, who lost most of last year to injury (operated in January, missed rest of season).

Seeing as this is his first real season as senior, his GK partner was expected to be #1, but the excellent play of Samuel has made them into a 1A/1B goalie pair.

Clara and him are going to be quite the tandem. 6'6'' 20 year old and 6'5'' 21 year old.
