2022 Draft - 2nd Pick: Samuel Jonsson (G)

Moved on from Brynas to Rogle this season, last year not on a great team, but on a couple of occasions he was backup in the SHL. Didn’t get to play though.

Considered to be a significant add to the Rogle J20 team, which is a very good organisation.

His own words: big hybrid GK, consistency and decent athletics.

His new GK coach words (Rogle): fills in all of our criteria for how a GK should play, excellent character and great team player.

Pretty awful stats, would rather get guys that stop the puck and go undrafted like havelid or milic than just a big guy.

And when I say bad stats I do not care about a win loss record or GAA if he is on a bad team, I do care about save %, .883 is dreadful.

In any case lots of time to see if he develops I suppose.

I’ll wait until I’ve seen him play before judging him. Save% also can be dependent on quality of team.
would rather get a guy who could project to be a NHL goalie than someone who can make enough easy saves on a good club.

Save% can be heavily influenced by the team.

Pretty simple.

Win loss, yes
GAA yes

Team not so much.

It's a simple stat, no matter if you get lots or few shots it is relevant,

No goalies are considered good if they are under .900

You're aware that save percentage can be affected by shot quality they face right?

You expect a goalie to put up the same save % on a bad team as a good one?

If this was the case, teams should just pick the goalie with the highest save% every year.

Theres a reason GSAA is heavily referenced now days.

Apparently he thinks all shots are equal and a crappy team that gives up a lot of Odd man rushes, breakaways and open slot looks is no different than a team that gives up only weak shots from the outside.

He’s going to be so much better than Wallstedt! How do I know? I don’t, but neither do you, they are goalie prospects.

Enough with the Wallstedt garbage. He's not here and he never was. We've drafted extremely well of late. Bourgault looks awesome. Holloway looks like a beast. Broberg should be showing us what we have next season.

I get it. You wanted Wallstedt. I wanted Noah Dobson. We got Evan Bouchard. I get to enjoy Evan Bouchard now. You can't change the past, and if you dread on it, it will be your demise.

Skinner appears to be the goalie of the future. If not....we have 20 mil in cap space to find a guy. I rarely post anywhere on this site except prospect pages and our draft page....why? Posters that bring up this same garbage over and over are exhausting.

Every goaie with a crap save % is lousy, well cept our guy! He is awesome but the team around him gives him a bad save %! Boo ya!

Sorry but a few years from now if Minny has a long term starter and our guy is in a list of 5 other similar we have it still matters. You cannot shove aside org decisions, if you are going to do that for holland then do it for guys like chia.

Give credit where it is due and take the team to task if you feel it has slipped up.

I think it was a mistake not to take the goalie just like i think it was a mistake to not take zegras when he fell into our laps.

Doubling down on an uninformed take.

Atleast you’re consistently wrong
So what is your take? save % does not mean anything? If you feel that way then your view makes sense, if not your view does not make sense.

Save % means something.

It’s also affected by the team in front of them, which you don’t think so.

If the team in front of them didn’t matter, GSAA wouldn’t be a thing

If anything under 900 was bad, half the goalies wouldn’t even get drafted

Did Minny draft the goalie you wanted this year? What does Zegras have to do with Jonsson? What does Chia have to do with how this pick is judged? Are just projecting random anger to cover for your bad take that a bad team in front of a goalie can’t influence save percentage?

Great….your opinion has been posted here, a thread about Samuel Jonsson ….and in every other thread for the last three years….end it….tired of reading about it in every thread. Not just from you but half of the posters here…as I stated, it’s exhausting.

I posted this in the Dev Camp thread but thought it would be appropriate here as we get our first look at our 5th rounder Jonsson. The kid is a monster in net. If he develops good lateral mobility and puck tracking, he could live up to the hype that the scouts have given him.

3:20 mark to get a good reference for his size.
