Allow for quick communication within large brains.

The last part has been proven false. They accomodate quick communication in mammalian brains that have complex (vs the rest) social behaviors, but large brains is not a prerequisite.

VENs have been found in macaque monkeys and raccoons, which are much smaller brains. You will find larger brains that do not have VENs because they are solitary animals.

If he can handle the physicality of the NHL, those edges and deceptive shakes are going to make him a monster

His intensity is top notch. This has to stay that way for him to be effective. Intensity with that skating and skill is rare. If he was closer to 6'-0", he would have went top 10.

Yes, I should have said "better developed." I was simplifying. See above re: My cat being named Mittens.

You’re not wrong haha
Pretty much

I was the biggest Hutson homer pre draft, but even with his great NCAA season, I have tempered my expectations for him even more.

Just not a fan of his skating style. Unlike other small guys he really lack the ability to generate force. You just never really see him apply any power in his game, whether it be a shot, hit, or in his skating stride. The only real NHL comparable I can think of is Quinn Hughes. I see his peak upside as a Hughes-lite, if he hits. Or a Victor Mete with much better passing, and worse skating and defense if he busts.

I'm still rooting for him big time. Another 5"9 d-man has been playing regularly in the NHL the past two seasons who many haven't heard of, Jacob Bryson in Buffalo. Bryson isn't known for his offense, so just another example of a small guy who can play defense well enough to stick.

Hey everyone, any news on Sean Farrell? Everyone is talking about Hutson in that thread so I figured a switcharoo was in the works.

My question is: when is the earliest we might see Farrell signing a contract with the Habs?

When his season is done, around the same time Harris arrived last season or Caufield in 2021.

Last 10-15 games of the season

I remember at draft scouts were saying if he was 3 inches taller Hutson a top 5 pick
I lifted your above post from the Farrell thread so as to not further detail it.

I tried looking up a source for what your post says and the closest I’ve seen is this excerpt from McKeen’s:

In terms of processing ability, passing arsenal and the rest of his elite skills, Hutson stands near a tier of his own amongst defenders in this class -- so much so that I have zero hesitation claiming him as a potential top five challenger if he was 5'11 and not 5'8.

Was this the source of your quote or did it come from someone else?

Didn't Craig Button say something similar recently?

I actually mentioned Bryson as who I thought he can be a little earlier too, I think hutchson has more game breaking ability but Bryson IQ is top of the charts. Here’s hoping

It still does not matter if a clown like Button or a fake scout at McKeen's makes such an asinine claim......these are not scouts, these are wannabe's and failures who are in the business of generating hyperbole in order to sell/promote their product to a largely unknowledgeable target audience.

Posters who quote/paraphrase these amateurs who are making entirely unsubstantiated, pie in the sky remarks and offer them as some sort of empirical evidence are not engaging in worthwhile discussion. I entirely understand that Lane would be a more coveted prospect if he was taller but there is no way to quantify this fairy tale and real scouts don't bring this nonsense to their GM's.

I believe Button also said Caufield would go first overall if he were 5'11. Which honestly is not a hot take three year later. Seider is struggling mightily and only Hughes is definitely ahead of Cole at the moment.

Hughes & Cozens are ahead. Boldy and Zegras are neck and neck with Caufield.

For the moment, Caufield would go 3oa
