I would’ve drafted him at 26 without hesitation and would’ve ran to the podium to announce his name.

Hell, you could’ve convinced me to move up in the first round for him.

Kudos to the balls of the scouting team to sit on their hands and let him slip to 62. They probably knew how other scouts felt about him and size in general. The size brigade struck in our favour big time in this instance.
Can you imagine Seattle had 4 second round picks and managed not to take him, that’s insane! I can understand that teams with one pick might want to go the safer route though. When they picked right before us, I was sure it was game over for us. I’m quitte happy now obviously!

Seattle also has no good defence prospects. It’s definitely a gamble they should have taken with that many 2nds.

I think so too. They drafted a bunch of really wonderful skaters. From my list we have 4 of the top 20 skaters in the draft, just by skating ability: Mesar, Hutson, Beck, and Rohrer. That's got to count for something. Nurmi and Engström are also apparently very good skaters.
What a change from the Terry Ryan and Connor Crisp approach of drafting players: who you hope will develop the necessary skating ability after the age of 18. Incomprehensible. But no Stanley Cups in 30 years and 2 in a half century is all one needs to understand the regressive, if not asinine, drafting approach that successive managements futilely pursued.

Not the same kind of player but this 2nd round pick has Subban vibes.
Kid has spent his whole young career proving his doubters wrong. That's the fire, desire and skill you look for in a high draftee. This kid's a player and will play in the NHL. And will play at a high level. Probably our best pick since ....Caufield. Another player supposedly too small to excel in the NHL. Beware of the consensus. Whether as to the good or bad.

Don't forget the boring Defense first where we have not had a Habs draft pick since Plekanec score over 70 points.
Last 40 goal scorer I think was Damphousse 28 years ago.
Richer last 50 goal scorer over 30 years ago and Naslund the last 100 point scorer and that was 36 years ago.
This once iconic franchise has been run into the ground for too long.

Hutson man... I would have taken him at 26 and 33. Just so pumped he made it to 62. After being more accustomed to Timmins/Bergevin drafting style I was so worried they would pass on him at 62. Can't believe we got this player. He will be hyped like crazy the next couple years, hoping he pans out.

To be fair, they drafted Caufield when we all thought they would pass.

Regrettably, these are the results you deserve when you hire general managers, assistant general managers, coaches and scouts on criteria other than merit. The floundering state of this great franchise is well earned. But for a fan who went to his first game in 1957, I see a level of competency, vision and insight that has been largely absent since Sam Pollock was taking advantage of the rubes that passed off as hockey general managers. Most of these 'managers' were hockey hacks and former players that shouldn't have been entrusted with a bowl of potato salad let alone the construction of a winning sport franchise. It's early in the game, but the current management team's disposal of players as the last season drew to a merciful conclusion and their intuitive drafting strategy should give everyone some hope. And hope is a good thing. It would appear that the rubes have been driven out of town.

That franchise is doomed. But? As long as our league is paying for it? Can we make fun of them?

2 cups in 40 years, but if you go back 50 you get '73 and '76-'80. The ownership and management disasters set in after the last dynasty, and got dramatically worse through the '90s.

Counting on some of you guys following the NCAA to keep us updated on Hutson’s season. He’s got the ‘it’ factor. Can’t wait to see his progress.

They picked the forward version of him at 33 though, but the rest of their 2nd round was eeeeeh
