I heard even Slaf can't stop him lol, he stole the puck from him.
Quote from Stu Cowan:
Hutson was like a little ball of fun as he flew up and down the ice with great skating, vision and passing skills. He scored a couple of highlight-reel goals and was also able to poke the puck away from Slafkovsky during a one-on-one battle as the giant winger tried to drive hard toward the net.

Slaf's value is not going to be at 4/4 or 3/3. Slaf's value is at 5/5 and in the slot on the PP. Hutson's value is open space where he can burn you with his skating and skill.

I bet you Hutson can do that to Tkachuk as well. It's when the real games come and the pace is quicker and time and space is less that changes things.

But yeah, Hutson's skating and skill is top notch. Kid has game

The most exciting part for me with this kid is even if he was JUST on the team for the PP we'd still profit

Not Slafkovsky, not even Shane Wright could help our PowerPlay right now

What our PP is missing is This.Guy.

God I cant wait, just give us 1 1/2 more inches dude PLEASE lol
Hutson will have a more impactful NHL career than Wright. No doubt in my mind. While you can't teach size, you can't teach elite skill and competitive fire either. This kid is a winner.

Good sample we have seen and he was ranked like what? 25th? Basically a top 10 player with his skill and skating and slipped to 25th in ranking due to size. Then slipped more on actual draft day.

Sounds like Caufield but worse in terms of how far he slipped. I love where we got him and that's what draft power provides us!

Lets see what he does in the NCAA this year. One step at a time

Not the same kind of player but this 2nd round pick has Subban vibes.

I feel that too. It's not that often a prospect comes away looking that impressive in Montreal camp right out of the draft. Not sure I remember the last time. No offense to Slafkovsky but he didn't really do that much more than Kotkaniemi/Galchenyuk IMO.

Here
I would’ve drafted him at 26 without hesitation and would’ve ran to the podium to announce his name.

Hell, you could’ve convinced me to move up in the first round for him.

Kudos to the balls of the scouting team to sit on their hands and let him slip to 62. They probably knew how other scouts felt about him and size in general. The size brigade struck in our favour big time in this instance.

I think they played our draft power well.

I thought I read somewhere that apparently they tried to move up in the 2nd round to pick Hutson, and just couldn't make a deal. They were pleasantly surprised when he landed on their laps at 62.

Happy with the pick and good on the Habs for taking a swing for the fences here. He has so many offensive tools and his skating is top notch.

Sure, he’s on the smaller side though he’ll for sure fill out and maybe grow a little but he can certainly open doors for other similarly sized prospects if they have the same skill and drive.

IF he pans out, he has all the tools we’ve been missing for years on our blue line.

For those whining about his size, within a vacuum, sure, it may be an issue but our current and future D are mostly 6’+ and 200lb+ players. The NCAA will have bigger and older players as well so he’ll acclimate.

He’ll be fine.

In today's NHL behemoths are less likely to vaporize small players into the stratosphere like they did in days gone by,more of a code like not hitting the goalie.

I think so too. They drafted a bunch of really wonderful skaters. From my list we have 4 of the top 20 skaters in the draft, just by skating ability: Mesar, Hutson, Beck, and Rohrer. That's got to count for something. Nurmi and Engström are also apparently very good skaters.

I hope we go 1/3 or 1/4 on our current group of prospects and keep the draft power going. Might not add too many more 1st but we can add more 2nd's, 3rd's and 4th's like we have been doing for a while now.

Drafting is all about assembling a draft board and having more darts to throw at it. Hutson, Roy, Ferrulle are good examples. It's basically how Tampa got Kucherov, Point, and Cirelli.

Still need those top 10 or top 15 picks to get better quality though

He played 15 games this year against NCAA competition he scored 3 goals and 6 assists, 9 points. 5th on the team in front of guys like Gauthier and McGroarty.

We don't really have any other prospect on defence with this type of profile...I mean the closest we have is Norlinder. Our prospect pool was in dire need of a puck moving pure offensive d-man.

With Romanov gone... that's make more place for Lane Hutson and Jordan Harris.

If like doctor of Hutson said that he is going to grow... 5"10 will be perfect. That's a homerun pick right there.

He needs to train with Bouillon.

Bouillon was 5'8'' 198
Bouillon was the strongest player on his habs team and built like a fire hydrant. He was small, and he may be able to help Hutson work around problems with his reach, but his solution was mostly muscle. Hutson is not built that way at all.
