Holtz returned to Utica.

Need to let somebody ACTUALLY see him play before they accept him in a deal since Lindy won't play him?

Anybody hearing some real scuttlebutt?

I know Hughes is coming back tomorrow, but the Devils still have a roster spot open. 13F/7D/2G = 22.

On another note, this should have been done after the 1st of the year. He has been rotting all season in NJ based upon the way Lindy has ignored him. 1 of the AHL's top rookies in 2021-22 turned into an NHL press box occupant for 2022-23. Not exactly the best way to continue the development of a promising 1st round selection in his 2nd professional season. I hope they trade him because the kid deserves better than this.

This is BS. The Comets don't have enough of what they need to begin with. When you make an AHL trade and get nothing back, that's not a good trade. Future considerations means you usually get back shit if you actually get back anything at all.

Getting Engaras for Van Whye on 1/23 wasn't exactly a home run, but at least it was a guy better than the one traded. He can at least keep his head above water.

Future considerations does nothing for the roster.

MacKinnon is a stamp GM. He has seen the Comets problems in the middle since training camp! What has he done to find help? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! There are no centers in the prospect pool and what they had was definitely inadequate. Thus, you beat the bushes here and abroad and find a couple.

When Pat Conacher was with the Comets moving back and forth between the GM and Director of Hockey Operations he was constantly trying to find guys to replace guys who were LTIR, called up and not sent back, or were traded by Vancouver. He was also trying to find help for what the Comets needed.

In 2 seasons MacKinnon has done, as I said, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. His "HELP" is the guys he aquired during the summer to place in Adirondack as depth. He always crows about these acquisitions and when the Comets call them up they are exactly what they have been in Adirondack--------ECHL hockey players. They don't do much of anything for the Comets. Jarrod Gourley, Patrick Grasso, Ivan Chukarov, Sebastian Vidmar, Nick Rivera, Xavier Parent have amassed 4 points total (1G/3A) in a combined 20 GP. Yep, a group most hockey management would puff out their chests to take credit for. Yet, he appears to be proud of providing Senyshyn a change of scenery. Good for Zach, but what do the Comets get out of it? NADA.

It's similar to how Ruff sends Holtz down because the kid needs to platy and play often. Who the F**k was responsible for him rotting in the press box and not playing and playing often?

RUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not buying that reasoning for a minute. He's either on his way to somewhere else besides Utica or the upcoming trade doesn't include him, but the new NJ roster will not have room for him.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if the outgoing turns out be Zetterlund and Sharangovich along with the 1st.Maybe even Nemec as they can re-sign Severson or maybe an NHL capable RD is coming back in the deal. Hey! Don't jump, because we have no idea. Only opinions and like a++holes everybody has one. LOL

I posted about on the Devils discussion thread.

The Sharks are at 49/50 contracts and we’re at 44/50 contracts.

Senyshyn has 296 AHL GP and 16 NHL GP.

If we do a Timo trade we’re taking back an AHL contract, presumably multiple ones.

They might be dumping him for other reasons.

Senyshyn wasn’t doing well here and teams do let players go if it’s not working out.

I think Parent can be productive tweener, he’s a PPG rookie in the ECHL.

Senyshyn was in a 4th line role - if the Devils add Moynihan in a few weeks, that seems like a fine exchange. It's also the time of year that they can add college UDFAs. Plus Senyshyn count towards the veteran maximum which you complained about earlier this year. The team needs help, Senyshyn doesn't seem like he was providing it.

Yes, that’s what we would care about and it we got a vet center or a better winger from San Jose, he’s probably playing ahead of this guy.

From what I hear disgruntled players are a bad thing to have in the AHL locker room. He’s had a terrible year.

Keeping him might seem beneficial until you think about him bitching, brooding, bumming, etc by his stall.

If we could have gotten more for him they would. He’s probably not worth his contract to most teams but Carolina hoards talent and he might hope he can do something there.

The worst part of this obviously is me adding a Timo narrative. Hope that doesn’t look silly at some point.

You didn't read that correctly. I never once said Senyshyn was worth keeping. He wasn't worth signing in the first place.

I said trading any Tom, Dick, or Harry and getting nothing back is not a good trade! Senyshyn could rot in the well. I don't care. Zach playing in Chicago doesn't bother me one bit. it's exactly the same thing.

Playing any of those guys I listed from Adirondack is not good. They just suck! Make an AHL trade that does some good for both teams. This was the same thing as saying Zach died. He's gone and an AHL player doesn't fill the roster spot. That's my rant.

On Parent, maybe next year. He played 3 games here not long ago and was barely visible. He needs more development before he fits on an AHL roster.

I don't give a tinker about losing Zach. I complained that a trade for futures does nothing to improve the Comets roster which is what they need.

Then you're just complaining to complain about the rest of the stuff wrong with the team - if the guy isn't going to play in Utica, he should be sent elsewhere. There's no reason to keep veteran players with no role and no future.

McKinnon has made 2 AHL trades in 2 years and both returned nobody. That's not a good trade. Future considerations have yielded nothing.

This is the most uninspiring Comets / U Devils team in the 16 AHL seasons.

Impossible to watch. The pathetic crowds at the ABC confirm this.

Not sure where you came up with that take.

A bunch of prospects continuing to develop, some likeable veterans, and a team winning more than it loses.

Isn't that what a club wants in an AHL affiliate?

I was wary of the wish to get the Canucks out of Utica. The Devils track record of putting quality AHL teams on the ice is worse than Vancouver. It was predictable back in July how bad this team would be.

They aren't a bad team. I grant they're probably not entertaining, but they're an average team. And that's what could also be predicted in July.

A bunch is a stretch.
Daws Schmid Nemec Okhotiyuk Foote Clarke Thompson and I won’t count Holtz since he has been stuck in NJ most of the season. That’s roughly 1/3 of the team. I gues “a bunch” is open to interpretation but is it common to have more than 8 or 9 real prospects on an AHL team?

The Vancouver affiliate didn’t make the playoffs three times, while having a worse record than this team currently has, in the six years there were playoffs but I guess those were some thrilling non-playoff teams.

They made out of the first round the one year the team had a better record than Utica did last year (.660 vs .678). They lost in the Finals. I’m sure that year and playoff run was a blast but it was an anomaly.

I’m very critical of the Devils minors system too, and certainly no one in Utica has to go these games, but whiny hyperbolic bullshit is still just whiny hyperbolic bullshit.

I understand that a large portion of Utica hockey fans don’t care about the Devils and just want a good Comets team.

This board however exists so Devils fans can keep up with their affiliate so no one will care (and will be kind of annoyed) if you want suddenly wax nostalgic for a .500 Comets team in a different color combo.

Call me pessimistic but this is a bad hockey team. They had a 12 game point streak in December and early January that inflates their record. I give them credit for the hot streak but it wasn't sustainable and are back to playing well below 500 hockey again.... They have won just two games in their last ten. If they don't get outstanding goaltending they can not compete on most nights.

It's hard to believe that this level of hockey is one step below the NHL on most nights. The Comets passing is what I would expect from an ECHL team. It is an established fact that the Comets have trouble scoring goals and it's not hard to understand why it you watch them play (especially in person). All game long you will see a pass to a player in a good scoring position that can never get a quick shot off because the pass was not stick to stick. It's usually in his skates and by the time he gets the puck on his stick either the goalie has move into a good position to challenge the shot or the defenseman is in the lane to block the shot. It is mind numbing how a team at this level cannot routinely complete a 25 foot pass.

This is pessimistic insofar as this is how .500 teams are. They will go on hot and cold streaks. Just this week they scored 5 goals on 19 shots and scored 1 goal on 46 shots and lost both games.

I agree this team will struggle to compete without good goaltending but I think both of the goalies are good. Daws has struggled some this year and Schmid just took a beating but I think they're better than AHL average.

And yet the Comets are slightly below average offensively. It's frustrating to watch a team struggle offensively, and they've been on a cold streak offensively until last night, but they can score some goals. They need help and hopefully next year they will get some.

I guess I'm just not sold on certain guys still being much more than they currently are. You're not wrong though.
