The discussion was just over whether or not Hertl is a 1C, not whether he's a particularly great 1C. Although I would note that at his peak in 2018-19 Hertl was our 1C on a very good team. He will probably not get back to that level but he's still easily a top 32 center in the league.
Fringe imo. I think a lot of the perspective is the expectation he’ll become more but the reality is he’s almost 30 so his best years are probably behind him, especially with his injury history. Logan, for all intents and purposes, at least aged well. I agree with a previous assessment you made in that the priority should be trading Hertl while he still has value.

Don't know if there's anything to read into this, but I can't help but notice Halttunen is included here.

I guess he’s been signed so he gets a number but it certainly doesn’t seem like a guy who is going back to Finland. I’m kinda thinking they may try him in the AHL now.

I do question the why of it - is he more ready than a Musty?

My guess is Halttunen is only included because he wore #10 at development camp and had to switch to a "new number" when Duclair took it.

Personally, and without too too much insider info, I think he goes to the OHL.

I was coming to post the same. I can’t help but feel like Halttunen isn’t ready for more than a 3rd line role in the AHL and even then that might be pushing it. I gotta think it’s only because of him signing his ELC. Then again though Bystedt would have a number which I haven’t seen but might have missed.

Seems weird to pick Ottawa when Carolina made an offer. I feel like Ottawa's never actually going to break through as contenders.
Those offers were early in free agency. Carolina no longer has the money to offer $5.5M to Tarasenko. When he passed on the early offers in hopes of getting something better, he ended up settling for less than he could have gotten earlier.

I think he was holding out for more money and then CAR moved on. I don’t know if he necessarily picked Ottawa or settled for Ottawa. I don’t think it’s a bad place to be though. With Debrincat gone, he should probably be slotted in next to either Norris or Stutzle pretty easily. Add in that they really don’t have a sniper in their top 6, he should get solid PP time. Also a factor is that they have at least one guy who could be affected by the WJC probe and who knows in what capacity.

Think it’s a solid signing for him to potentially get a bigger deal next offseason.

Plot twist: 6 in the proverbial hand was actually worth 5 in the metaphorical bush

Norris is the sniper for them but he's not really a play driver for them so I think they'd step on each other's toes there. He'd probably fit better with Stutzle but I just don't think Tarasenko has that much left in the tank as a top 6 guy anyways.

Their PP1 should be Stutzle, Giroux, Tkachuk, Chabot, and Norris so I don't know if he'd even get quality PP time either.

On paper, it's a good signing for Ottawa but I don't think it'll really add much on the ice.

Taxes and travel mean that SJS will never be a premier destination.
Travel should be going down. Vegas + Seattle + Salt Lake🙄

But seriously, it's not like the Pacific teams are far from each other. The NHL just needs to stop the stupid back and forth

Unless you're having to walk or ride a bike to away games, Travel should never be a concern for professional athletes.
