Havelid's development will be interesting. Under the new NHL-SHL transfer rules he cannot play in the AHL until he's 24 years old. If he has a strong season this year and/or next the Sharks will have to promote him directly to the NHL.

I read that he is signed with Linkoping through the 23/24 season, so he's going to play there this year.
How does it work next year though. He is out of contract with his Swedish team then, doesn't that mean Sharks can sign him and assign him to the Cuda in 24/25?

I tried reading up on it here but don't really understand how exactly this plays out for Hävelid: Examining A Key Change In The NHL's Transfer Agreement With Sweden

This one is a little more in depth but it's not that it's strictly Sweden vs NHL, it's that the SHL teams need to give permission to assign the player to the AHL before they're 24

Yeah so if his deal is up in the SHL he should be able to go there unless I am understanding wrong

I think Eklund should have NHL time as much as possible this year, even if he is not 100% ready and producing. Play him with Hertl and Duclair.
You can't bring them all at the same time, so bring Eklund now to get the experience, after trade deadline and next year bring the next that's shown he is ready. That way we take away the risk of too many rookies being here at the same taking the whole team on their back.

Peterson and Thrun showed enough to have my trust for at least getting their start at the big club. It's just important to trust your young players, give them the long leash when they come up. They've done something right to come up.

Quinn doing a great job at talking up EK. I love that MG hasn't done anything drastic just for the sake of making a move. Like Hodge said, take your time and don't rush it. If we get an unreal offer, take it and run.
If SJ has to retain 4M for 4 years it better be an insane offer. I feel like even 1 year of 4M retention is worth a 1st so 4 years better bring something creative

100% yes, I think even if we don't ever get a chance to trade EK65, he'll have a couple of hockey playing years after this contract to sign those minimum cap hit contracts with a real contender and go for it.
If there is not a good deal for him, just let him be a mentor to the new wave. I know the young players absolutely worship him and they will do anything to play on the same team.

Absolutely. 100% agree with you. The EK offers on the main board that people come up with are absurd9 with very little coming back to us. I just don't get it.
One rarely sees some blockbuster deal where a team ponies up a great deal. The Kings for Dubious is the most recent example. The Meier trade taught me to tamper expectations

I suspect the Karlsson return will be somewhat less than the Meier return. I don't think Karlsson the asset is really worth more than Meier was and i suspect we get something more like a 1st and B+ prospect instead of a 1st, 1st/2nd, B+ prospect, C prospect, and young C roster player.

1st plus B+ prospect and maybe a bit more (if we take back bad contracts in addition to retaining) would be good by me. Karlsson very clearly wants to leave, and while he's been relatively classy about it so far, I could see that changing if they fail to move him again.

From Carolina:
2024 1st + Morrow. If you get anything else beyond that then count it as a bonus. Would be a big win for Grier to turn Meier and Karlsson into our future top D pairing plus additional 1st round picks.
