How is it a horrible deal? Dallas is up against the cap with a veteran laden roster surrounding a young core in its prime. They have to make the playoffs this season so trading a 1st for the highest upside cheap young RD available is a very shrewd gamble to try and replace Klingberg’s production. It might not work out but the 1st is unlikely to pan out as well barring a huge collapse.
No shit. Wilson mismanaged the team into a black hole where trading future 1sts would be asinine. Dallas is in a completely different spot competitively.I don't even have to imagine how you view this if Wilson made the exact deal. It would be the complete opposite.
Dallas really isn't that much better off than us, their cap situation is arguably almost as bad with Benn and SeguinNo shit. Wilson mismanaged the team into a black hole where trading future 1sts would be asinine. Dallas is in a completely different spot competitively.
Dallas finished with 20 more points than the Sharks did last season. They’re not a Cup contender or anything but they’re clearly much better off than us.Dallas really isn't that much better off than us, their cap situation is arguably almost as bad with Benn and Seguin
They have good goaltending and Jason Robertson, that's about it

We know bords isn't nhl ready. Euks is a coin flipInteresting article from Sheng Peng today. While NHL scouts were impressed with Bordeleau and Eklund, they didn't think they were NHL ready. That's a bit of a downer.
Feels like Dallas is pulling a San Jose circa 2018...one last kick at the can.
But I was told that if Eklund doesn’t make the team out of camp something is seriously wrong. Not the worst thing in the world to let them play in the AHL for a couple months.

I see it differently. If Eklund looked like a guy who could comfortably make the NHL at 19, then he's trending like a Michalek or a Hertl (bonafide top-line player). But I was told that if Eklund doesn’t make the team out of camp something is seriously wrong.
I don’t think it’s a big concern if Eklund starts in the AHL as long as he tears it up and earns a midseason call up. If he struggles to produce at that level then it’s time to give up on him as a future first liner.I'm in

Good, lets him develop and improves the Sharks' draft pick. Win-Win.Interesting article from Sheng Peng today. While NHL scouts were impressed with Bordeleau and Eklund, they didn't think they were NHL ready. That's a bit of a downer.

Timo was underwhelming in his 33 games in the ahl. Producing 23 points in those games.I’m genuinely intrigued if anyone has heard of a player who struggled in the minors and produced well in the NHL? Probably not a long list but I’m interested if there have been many guys who kinda had that opposite thing goin on.
Jesus christ you are really quick to write off any prospect.I don’t think it’s a big concern if Eklund starts in the AHL as long as he tears it up and earns a midseason call up. If he struggles to produce at that level then it’s time to give up on him as a future first liner.
You don't see the value in him getting experience at a higher level? If you start Eklund in the AHL there’s no reason to call him up to the NHL at all unless they’re miraculously competing.
