What exactly would be the point of acquiring Nylander? Good player, but we don’t need good 28 year olds right now. Couture is preferable during our rebuild. Obviously if it were a three way (Toronto gets Logan, some third team gets Nylander, and we get a bucket of futures) I’d do it, but that’s fantasyland anyway.

Where are they going to find 4.2M? They have to resign Miller too and 2-4 other forwards (depending on prospects) and only have like 9M in cap space next year.

Well, you said it yourself... $4.2M x 1yr easily fits in that 9M cap space.

Stutlze, that Sharks 3rd overall pick traded away, signed for $8.35M x 8yr. Rangers are not going to let their guy go for what amounts to a bag of pucks for the 1st overall. Getting him on a $4.2M offer sheet is dreaming, imo.

LaFreniere is going to take a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, or more for a serious offer sheet. Besides, at $4.2M, Rangers would get more in trading him.

Miller will command at least 4M and that’s low. Laf at 4.2 means they have 0.8M left to sign 2 forwards and a back up to have the bare minimum roster.

I had that idea because that's a way to get rid of Couture's contract and have Nylander as a trade chip for the trade deadline or sign him if Bedard/Fantilli arrive and need a good linemate. Having a Nylander without Toronto media pressure could be fruitful for the development of a top pick. I know that it significantly weakens our already bad center depth, but it will push younger guys getting a chance at center in a not so significant year. I know it's not the best idea, since we are trying to get picks but there is a chance to make some profit at trade deadline or get Nylander to become a younger veteran (same age as Meier) for future Sharks team.

In what world has laf, shown he deserves 4.2 million a year?
that's exactly the point of the OS. Like the Canes did with Kotkeniemi.

Laf will never get over 3.5 from the Rnagers this year, so if a team offers him that (up to 4.2), Laf looks at that like a free money + a chance to actually play top-6 minutes.

If we assume is his frustrated in NY, and that NY is frustrated with his development, then it would be in some team's best interest to take advantage of that situation.

I don't see a point in even talking to any of the UFAs. I would let all the RFAs walk too but I'm guessing Grier will keep Zetterlund and maybe Gregor.

Yet he was able to prioritize getting Knyzhov a new contract and stability during the season. What a guy.

Sometimes you look really hard to try to find compassion and humanity in general managers, but it's really clear here.
A less charitable reading is that Knyzhov was the one UFA he really wanted to lock up, so he handled that business early. He doesn't really want any of the pending UFAs, and with the pending RFAs, I don't imagine that there's much bargaining to be done.

Small sample but Peterson looked solid. I'd also keep Zetterlund and Gregor. I think Gregor is a prime piece to go to EDM for something. Zetterlund more that I want to at least give him a full shot with training camp and more familiarity with the team

Macklin Celebrini is going to look so sick in teal. "Local" kid and is committed to BU so he is a prefect MG pick.
Animbi Nickercell: Man blinker icicle, ran imbecile clink. Just then he pulls off his finishing move, the ol' Main Bilk Encircle...

Too much fun with anagrams... But Adam Fantilli had "Mandala If Lit" and "Mafia And Lilt" were pretty damn good.

Connor Bedard: "Dab Corner Don" and "Cornbread Don" prolly my favorites.

Matvei Michkov had some interesting ones: "Viva Ketch I Mom" "Viva Coke Hmm It"

A proposal I threw out on the trade boards, I'd like to get some opinions here on. Would you trade our 2nd round pick at 36 to Toronto for #28, Matt Murray in his final year, and a 5th round pick? We move up into the 1st for a cap dump goalie that we can trot out there next season with Kahkonen. This looks similar to the Mrazek trade with Chicago.

Personally happy to add Murray for a year, but exchanging 36oa for 28oa isn't very enticing.

The 3rd rounder from Carolina and I'd consider it.

I think we'd have to add something to get them to go for the Carolina 3rd over our 2nd in this situation. Shit, Chicago could do the very same deal for Murray that they did for Mrazek that would likely be more enticing to Toronto to pull off than that.

I’d probably do it. We need a bad #1B goaltender to platoon with Taanko on our way to Celebrini next year, and moving from 36 to 28 would help to guarantee one of the players I like in that range instead of praying they fall to 36.

I like it but it's the type of trade you wait to pull the trigger on until the Leafs are on the clock at 28 depending on who's still on the board.

I'm hoping that someone like Dragicevic or Willander are still there. And if we have both Boston and New Jersey's pick in that range, I'd be happy to get them both if possible. If the team plays their cards right, they could have four 1st round picks in this draft that may be a huge boost to their timeline.

Those two are my prime targets with our second first. I’d go crazy if we got one of them, never mind both.

So a top 5 pick and 2 late 1st round picks in a pretty deep draft would be good. And would satisfy the quantity needs 3 1st is better then 2 1sts and a 2nd. Even if they are only separated by 10 or so picks.

I'm at least hoping for a Karlsson trade to yield a 1st in this year's draft. The entire first round is full of NHL caliber talent that the team can use during their rebuild but if that in conjunction with a move up trade like the Murray proposal could really get a young group of players put together pretty quickly.

If the Sharks come out of this draft with Michkov/Carlsson and two or three of the defensemen that are slated to be first round picks, that's a pretty big move forward.

I’d ask for a little more. A 3rd or multiple 5ths.

Marleau cost a first to move at $6 million, and that was before the flat cap when teams had more money. I’d expect 3.75 mil of Murray to probably be worth a 2nd or so.

I think there is some merit in making the trade ahead of time. Having picks 28, 30, and 36 would give ammunition to move around the board if a player drops.

For example Benson slips past 9. In that case the Sharks could make a similar trade that was made last year to move up and grab him.
