Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

Considering we have some of the worst defensive depth in the league I’m a little upset we couldn’t do this deal.
We were rumored to be one of the teams interested in doing the deal with them. Guessing the hang up is that we don't have the cap space yet and it would really only make sense if we were able to deal Karlsson.

I'd rather keep Ferraro for PR/locker room reasons.
I <3 Ferraro. But I'm not sure what the Sharks would be trading for Fabbro.

FWIW, Barbar and Acey are my untouchables. It's completely unreasonable, but I'm just a fan and I need a couple players I enjoy watching try really hard. Even if they're not actually really good.

Not sure that makes any sense for us. Someone like Cicek and a future pick maybe makes sense, but Ferraro for Fabbro would be a loss on the trade in a big way for someone that NSH is likely to non-tender.
Interesting. I wasn't sure if Mario is worth the money he's being paid. I didn't realize NSH isn't going to tender a QO.

His minutes got slashed from 19 mins the last few years to 16 mins a night. At $2.4M, his QO is going to be $2,640,000. Doubt they're going to spend that sort of money on a guy that they've relegated that far down the lineup.

Here's me out to fantasy land for next year.

Meier at the deadline for Holtz, Zetterlund, 1st as the base of a trade

Karlsson retained at the draft for Barrie, Bourgault, EDM 23 1st and some condition on their 24 1st as a base

Labanc traded to the moon

Let's also assume we don't win the lottery so no 2023 draftees will be in the lineup.

Eklund-Hertl-Kunin
Barabanov-Couture-Holtz
Bordeleau-Sturm-Zetterlund
Lindblom-Lorentz-Eyssimont
Kaut

Ferraro-Barrie
UFA-Benning
Vlasic-McDonald
Simek

Kahkonen
UFA

That team sucks, and will get torn apart, but I also think the next 2 years after this one we will finish bottom-3/5 in the league

I’d actually be totally fine trading for Fabbro. I wouldn’t give up a huge price or anything but he looked like he had some solid potential early on and has sort of stalled. With the overall lack of depth on RD, both in the NHL and in our prospect pool, I’d trade for Fabbro. As long as it’s a bit of a swap. Maybe something around Labanc and Fabbro.

Had not thought of Labanc given I figured that Nashville would be looking to shave salary rather than add. Would be thrilled with moving that money off the books.

I have no idea why Ottawa would give up that much for essentially a lost season. Next year's 4.5 hit for him that crippling?
Pretty sure it's to avoid the signing bonus due to the ownership transition that is occurring there but there was also reports of them wanting to take a run for the playoffs too so who knows?

Giving up a high second for either of those reasons seems… well dumb.

If Nashville couldn't develop Fabbro, I don't think the Sharks could! I'd see him as what he is; a bottom-pairing decent defenseman.
