This is so odd. It puts me in a place I’m not comfortable with. I’ve seen it many times with other teams and contemplated it but never wanted to move the player. As much as I love Timo, it’s kinda exciting seeing him be so sought-after and more or less the hottest trade candidate on the market.
I do wonder if Buffalo would want to get rid of Jeff Skinner to help their cap. Sure he's having a fantastic season, but he's also under contract for another 4 years after this one at 9 per.Does Buffalo want Couture too?!
No thanks.Does Buffalo want Couture too?!
I think he wants to be close to Toronto his home.I do wonder if Buffalo would want to get rid of Jeff Skinner to help their cap. Sure he's having a fantastic season, but he's also under contract for another 4 years after this one at 9 per.
I have been thinking about the exact same thing. Meier is a type of player you want on your team to pair with a superstar be it on the same line or to drive play on the other line.In some ways there really is a strategy to wait for the draft lottery/draft before tearing this team down. If the Sharks get Bedard on that 8%-12% chance or whatever it may be, it could absolutely turn this team around WITH Hertl and Meier as centerpieces. It seems ridiculous to say, but given the contracts on the books and the relative talent of the Sharks team vs. other rebuilding squads, it's a legit option to see if a superstar prospect can drag you out of the bottom in a few seasons if you support them with good players. Not saying cup contender, but if the goal is to make the playoffs I guess it might not be a bad strategy just to wait and see if Bedard comes. If he doesn't though, then you really just have to tear this down and try again.
Barabanov-Hertl-Bedard
Eklund-Couture-Meier
Bordeleau-Sturm-Labanc
Lorentz-XXX-Kunin
Buyout or waive MEV, upgrade the defense through trade or signing, pray a goalie from the system works out, etc.
It ain't half bad. Eventually you slot Bedard in as your #1C, Hertl as your #2C, Couture to LW for life, Bordeleau #3C. But it all starts with Bedard.
Alright that's enough pie in the sky dreams, all I'm trying to say is waiting for Bedard to come or not is a legit strategy before deciding to tear it all down. Meier still under control technically then as well, so his RFA rights still have 1st round value likely.
I don't think Skinner wants to go anywhere which probably kills it regardless.I do wonder if Buffalo would want to get rid of Jeff Skinner to help their cap. Sure he's having a fantastic season, but he's also under contract for another 4 years after this one at 9 per.
What is your venmo?they're gonna trade him exactly 10 minutes after i buy a timo jersey aren't they
Tough so say. On one hand it’ll create more desperation as that means one more team got better and one piece is off the market. On the other hand it depends on the return. If it’s lower than expected then there’s a comparable.Would a Bo Horvat trade drive some sort of value level for Timo trade?

The issue with that is half the time teams say that and then they trade for the shriveled corpse of ToewsIf Horvat goes east it might drive another contending team to feel they need to make a major addition in order to better stay competitive
I agree and the shriveled corpses are usually pure rentals. Not sure either of those two areThe issue with that is half the time teams say that and then they trade for the shriveled corpse of Toews
I don’t think so, because I don’t think the market for those players overlaps much. A team trading for Horvat is a contender looking for a pure rental, but a team trading for Meier is a team on the up-and-up looking for a piece that will help them not only this year but next.Would a Bo Horvat trade drive some sort of value level for Timo trade?
I think their market overlaps a bit. Mostly with the teams that are rumored to be most interested in Timo. Namely Carolina (they currently have Kotkaniemi as their 2C), New Jersey (Friedman has said a few times that they’re interested), Seattle (they need a C more than a W), Detroit (they need forwards bad so), Buffalo (feels like all their top prospects are wings but they are overwhelmed at forward), Winnipeg (seems all but certain at least one of their top 2 Cs leaves), Islanders (they just need forwards), Rangers (don’t know if they’re actually interested).I don’t think so, because I don’t think the market for those players overlaps much. I’m all for keeping Timo here.Ideally you keep Meier because you spend draft picks looking for those kind of players…
…. But unfortunately the Sharks are in a position where they need to. If the Sharks could move Couture, Vlasic, Labanc, and co. it would be better.
