Did they also suggest he should have backhanded it? Or passed it to Kopitar?

I watched the LA broadcast, so feel free to post their commentary
Dude enough already. Your take wasnt perfect either right? Icing was not the best play - he had plenty of time to lob it out of the zone.

Icing was the better choice.

I mean christ sake everyone is saying take a 50 50 shot at a bad play are you kidding me?

He could have lobbed it, what if he flubbed it, or it went out of play? The icing was a 100 percent way to get it out

Here’s my take…who gives a shit! Can we save the ‘future HOF, former Norris Trophy winner doesn’t know how to play hockey’ argument for when we lose?

I dont like it... its not perfect. Its an acceptable play but lobbing it out way better (yes of course there is small amount of risk w any play). If NYI didnt call timeout (and the Kings couldnt)... they were on 1 min and 30 sec shift - dead tired... with 30 seconds left.

Edit: remove response to Axl.. do not like double posts

So...

They were on a 90 second end of shift, your words.....and you think the better play is to try and lob it out? Calling that a small risk? Really?

Jesus Christ people learn how to f***ing read, I never said you can't criticize, I said it shows who has played and who hasn't,I also said if you are going to have your shit right.

Kings Pawn has already said he didn't remember the play right,

So all I'm saying is get your shit right if you do.
Newsflash, you were being a patronizing, condescending ass towards everyone before I realized I misremembered Doughty's position - and that point still remains. Icing the puck was the worse choice compared to chipping it in an area towards 2 open players 30 feet away.

Here’s my take…who gives a shit! Can we save the ‘future HOF, former Norris Trophy winner doesn’t know how to play hockey’ argument for when we lose?
But nobody said he doesn't know how to play hockey. People know he's smart and talented and expect better decision-making for him. But he likely was influenced by being exhausted after a long shift at the tail end of a back-to-back.

Yes I think its a small risk... the dude is a Norris level player right? Lobbing a puck isnt hard.. are you claiming flipping the puck in the air is difficult?

Nope, it's not, but end of the game, end of the shift, after playing 27 minutes, is a helluva lot different than 1st shift of the 1st period,

You want to MINIMIZE the risk.....not throw out a 50/50 play when you are tired etc, and look at your picture, if he lobs it at that 2nd, what percentage do you give that trajectory to end up out of play and a 2 min penalty?

You think that just happened today? Pay more attention.

You are not admitting that icing the puck had its own risk - which was faceoff in own zone w tired players on a long shift - allowing other team to put out its best players and set up a play. Each approach (icing vs lob) was a tradeoff of risk reward.. lobbing the puck, risk of flubbing it (clearing over glass almost impossible from that angle).. reward: forcing the other team to retrieve the puck and re-enter zone (and possible getting ENG from 11 and 9) additionally getting fresh players on the ice. So at best you can say that icing was the more conservative approach to getting some relief, but not necessarily the best play.

No, it was the best play.....it's 100% to get out, even if you can't change, you can reset......and not be running around chasing the play....

What if his stick broke when attempting to shoot it down the ice? Nothing is 100%.

Then it would have broke when he tried to lob it.

Not saying it was 100% guaranteed to work, I'm saying between the two choices icing it was a better play to get it out of the zone

You literally said it was a 100% way to get it out. No it wasn’t.

Well true I mean the puck could have broken in two, the glass could have fallen, the ref could have blown his whistle because he was bored, zamboni driver could have gone on a rampage.

Better thing for me to say would have been icing it has DECIDEDLY THE HIGHER PERCENTAGE BY A FAR FAR FAR MARGIN than any other option

Better?

No because chipping it out was still the better choice.

you guys are getting baited so hard by the "i'm not touching you" kid from elementary school that held his finger an inch from your face
Yup. Bowing out. Just tired of people expressing opinions and people trying to shut them down with BS attacks.

Looking at his options given his body position: off the boards to Kempe - risky - guy is right there. chipping high off the glass not possible -- too close to the boards, lane to Kopi not really there.. the right move would be to loft it (which he did 30 secs prior) -- plenty of time and space for that..My guess is fatigue factors into what he did. Note: the Islander crew immediately questioned why he iced it.

@Nasti Tell me again how chipping it out was a better option given body position stick position and player location

Not trying to shut anyone down, you yourself said you remembered the play wrong, did you not? So how can you have an accurate opinion about something you didn't remember.

I've said it all the time, feel free to have an opinion, absolutely, but people were raking Doughty over the coals without having the slightest idea of what they were talking about.

Based on the picture, there was absolutely no pass to be had so 2 options, lob/chip or ice.....based on the picture lobbing it had a much higher risk than icing it....

Yup. Bowing out.

29 is peeling off to cover the outlet, if doughty hits the brakes he has enough time to prepare and eat a sandwich before lobbing it over the center ice dot

Icing & a faceoff is not the best play when your goalie has repeatedly shown an inability to stop shots from distance all season including earlier that game. You lose that faceoff & Quick is in trouble.
