And Cal...that's it for me. Maybe he pulls it together maybe he doesn't but the longer these guys wait to find out the bigger the hole we are in.

They call it the yips in MLB. Cal is a guy who has demonstrated skill and, importantly to this discussion, composure and mental fortitude at every level of play until now, enough so that he was a Captain at Notre Dame. Whether it's the hockey gods smiting him for the Buffalo rejection or just his own mind ripping him apart, I haven't seen a Kings goalie play themselves out so hard since Cloutier.

That game was pretty much a microcosm of his entire career.......played very very well.........then let some Peewee level bullshit in........then pulled a save out of his ass.......and then f***ed up again.....

After THAT performance, I don't think there's any coming back from that

The issue I see is that nobody's taking that #1 spot from Kopitar with their play.

There's a very strong argument that Danault has since about midway thru his first year.

I know you're talking about kids advancing but it's a little chicken and egg too when they keep holding Kopitar's head underwater with minutes.

Even Jim was going pretty hard at Petersen

I know it sounds easy in hindsight but once Cal made that save, I knew one of the next couple of shots would go in

He had pretty much completely given up on that play and was mentally fried, I had a feeling he couldn't even reset in his head before the next shot. I'd be lying if I said I knew it would be a freebie, but I figured there'd be a shot from the point he'd flip out about

We saw this early on with Quick but he straightened it out, he'd get TOO active in net to make some crazy saves then something easy would beat him because he was still in overreact mode

Cal in contrast is self-inflicting the overreactions, he's supposed to be more of a stable butterfly goalie than quick, but for a guy with those attributes he sure sucks at tracking the puck/seeing thru traffic and puts himself WAY out of position way too frequently.

Cal is consistently inconsistent. When was the last time he strung 3-4 games in a row where he played well. I can't remember. So how is he going to win a 7 game series??? On a team that relies heavily on their D and goaltending guess what , it results in a Team being consistently inconsistent.

So frustrating because the talent is there but it seems more and more holes are opening up on this team.

Honestly I don’t have anything to say that we haven’t really been saying for the last 2 seasons. Same problems are the same problems.

Except now Im also worried Rob might go full Dave Taylor and like trade Turcotte and Clarke for kasperi Kapanen and Ryan reeves or something
whoa whoa whoa, no need to go there. We haven't reach that point yet.

Rightfully so. A lot of the team deserved the call out that Jim gave them.
Todd did it in the presser. You can't make that great save then give up that stinker on the next shot, right after your team ties it. He said it deflated the entire team. As bad as they were in the 2nd, they should've got at least a point instead of nothing.

Yes they sold everyone the rebuild is over.. so we are in the dreaded black hole right? Blake has the resources to get the team out of that, but this years team is a slightly over .500 team and not heading in the right direction... Im rooting for them to get into the playoffs again but without a 1C and a more effective d-corps and goalie I dont see them advancing far.. its could happen like it happened w Montreal, but its unlikely.

Not even close to those black hole teams. Back then we didn't have guys coming up through the pipeline like we do now, to make future teams better . Scott Barney is not our top prospect today.

Well Reaves got traded today so maybe i'tll just be Clifford or Simmonds for Walker
I’d make either of those deals in a f***ing heartbeat.

Their time as useful hockey players is over, but the price is right, and I’m sure they would change the culture around the gym and locker room.

And that's exactly why Guerin says he did it too, not even for the scrapping, but to bring life to the team. I bet they respond.
