Frost better score, b/c he also had some bad defensive plays last night.
That's why Frost/Cates has always been an apples and oranges comparison.

Frost has improved defensively, but he's never going to garner Selke votes, but if he can avoid being a liability on defense (see TDA), then his offense should carry him.
minimum 700 (5x5) minutes:

TK 2.34 pp/60 (41st among all forwards) - 272 total

[Giroux 2.16 (68)]
[JG 2.06 (80)]
Frost 1.98 (95)
Farabee 1.91 (112)
Tippett 1.80 (133)
Hayes 1.79 (136)

Cates 1.45 (206)
Laughton 1.24 (241)

Frost isn't a liability on defense. You don't need to generate fake what-ifs to defend a terrible management process and terrible coaching.

Cates is Nodl.

Frost is a high end Weal?

Think Morgan at least has potential to be a bit more relevant to the future success of this team. Cates guys are as common as dandelions.

I’d say I’m higher on Frost than Farabee though.

Random thoughts.

Would Arizona or Montreal be willing to play ball for a swap of firsts in an overall package that would include Konecny.

If Michkov makes it to 5 would be a nice place for Briere to show his quality.

Also also. This is simple petty bragging, but just nice to type out. 10 team work fantasy league. Gunna take the championship home today after Florida’s performance yesterday.

-Matthews, Hischier, Giroux
-Verhaeghe, Necas, Kreider, Nichuskin, Kempe, Skinner, DeBrusk, Hyman
-Byram, Forsling, Burns, Andersson
-Georgiev, Korpisalo

Dropped Markstrom halfway through season. Damn saboteur.

You can scratch almost all of your In list. If Briere is listening to Tortorella then they'll just be adding more bottom roster grinders.
next years roster is going to be a total shitshow of old grinders... its actualy gonig to be comically bad..

but hey, we will be "hard to play against" while giving up 2 points every game...

i doubt any team in the top 5 of this draft is willing to move down... not this year.

It's very telling that you never talk about Tippett being a defensive liability when his defensive results are a lot worse than Frost's this season. Almost half a goal per 60 minutes higher.

You are right about apples and oranges, though. Frost is a high end, playmaking center with a great shot scoring at 2.12 ESP/60 in his first full NHL season, which is 2nd best behind only TK. Cates is a defensive winger being forced to play center as part of Torts' scheme to run Hayes out of town, and Cates is only producing 1.55 ESP/60 while mostly playing with the best wingers on the team.

I like Cates. He is definitely playing to many minutes but he is fine in a bottom 6 role.

If a player has the skills to play good offense, there’s no reason why they can be adequate and improve defensively. It becomes a matter of if they want to. Frost has proven that he can cut it offensively in the league. His game has grown as the season has gone on. Look for him to work on his defense and FOs in the off season. If he can improve in those areas, he’s a decent 2C.

If he can continue to progress offensively, Frost just has to be adequate defensively, on a team with Couts and Cates.

(5x5) Scoring since December 7 (when JVR returned and the top three lines were generally set);

Frost 14:02 - 2.44
TK 14:39 - 2.23
Tippett 14:13 - 1.89
Cates 13:40 - 1.70
JVR 13:00 - 1.63
Farabee 13:14 - 1.57
Hayes 13:56 - 1.43
Laughton 13:54 - 1.41
Allison 12:48 - 1.08

Cates isn't that good defensively. Pretty comparable to Frost.

The lines haven't been remotely set at any point. They are ever changing. This cutoff and reasoning you use for it are absolute fiction.

According to an article in The Athletic by COC, Sean Coutourier has been ruled out of games for the rest of the season. Briere and Tortorella met with him and made the decision. SC feels that he’s in good enough shape physically to be able to play. They agreed with him but want him to have more time in order to heal. Start him with a clean slate in the fall.

Well, it’s positive that he apparently subjectively feels well. There’s so many possible ways this can go though with the amount of injuries he’s had.

COC wrote that Torts was concerned that Coots would get hurt because, though he may be healed, that right now, heading into the POs, teams are really ramping up the speed of their games and Coots might hurt something else since he's not ready to up his own game right now to match them. Torts and Briere really seem to be dedicated to getting Coots well and keeping him at that level. Good to hear. It's a change from the Flyers decisions of the past.

TK was a different matter, minor injury, upper body so he was able to skate, and he has a shot at 30 goals, hard to shut him down when he's worked hard all season and deny him a personal goal. Since he returned, he looks like he hasn't lost a stride.

He watched the game on TV. It's ironic because maybe he could use some of those answers in Answer Alley.
