All of you are laughing at Charles in Charge here, but this shrewd tactician just landed a similar talent to the one he got as a center piece in the Giroux trade. But this one was off waivers!

I had this exact thought. But then I remembered the 1 year of extra development time. Makes all the difference.

JUST ONCE, PICK A PLAYER WITH HIGH IQ, CREATIVITY, AND PASSING ABILITY.

ENOUGH GOONS, IDIOTS, AND "SNIPERS".
Now hold your breath til you turn blue*

*won’t change a damn thing but it will make me laugh

I count 14 first rounders on the roster

JVR - 2nd overall 2007
Hayes - 24th overall in 2010
Couturier - 8th overall in 2011
Laughton - 20th overall in 2012
Konecny - 24th overall in 2015
Bellows - 19th overall in 2016
Tippett - 10th overall in 2017
Frost - 27th overall in 2017
Farabee - 14th overall 2018

Ellis - 11th overall in 2009
Ristolainen - 8th overall 2013
Sanheim - 17th overall in 2014
DeAngelo - 19th overall in 2014
Provorov - 7th overall in 2015
All they need now are Ryan Sittler, Pat Falloon and to reacquire NoPa

We're supposed to add players with high IQ, skating ability, skill and creativity off the waiver wire?
I want some of what that man is smoking!

You say that like Marchessault, Gourde, Marchment, Forsling, Verhaeghe and so on weren't on waivers at one point recently. Of course you only get players like this every year or two, so the odds are not in your favor. But then, we have a team that ensures the odds are NEVER in their favor with their targets. Lord knows you could do worse than Bellows as a shot in the dark for a dumpster fire team -- and lord knows Fletcher has done worse. But then it's pointless to limit it to waivers.....

We could talk about $1MM UFA deals for many of the players above, or the Nichushkins of the world, and realize the Flyers prioritize Day 1, 4 year contracts (that don't matter) to face punching plugs. To absurd measure, they ensure they will never find the diamond in the rough. It's about overarching philosophies, not individual examples. I doubt they could recognize and polish a diamond if they fluked their way into finding one.

So not using hindsight, did anyone else think tippet was a worthy top 10 pick at the time? I didn't personally, I didn't have him much lower, I still have lists on my computer going back to 2013 lmao I had tippet at 14

Funny enough my list wasn't very good that year I had petterson, Patrick, hischer, hiskanenen, makar, Rasmussen, Necas, Thomas, Foote, vilardi, Norris, eeli tolvanen, and then tippet so yeah my list didn't age well lol

You’re about to get a history lesson on how Patrick Brown was a good upside play because he scored a goal in the playoffs before.

Most of those players were buried in the AHL for three or four years, there's a big luck factor involved, which AHL+ player will make the jump? TB waived Verhaeghe, what's wrong with their scouts? Marchment was traded for another marginal forward.

They signed ONE player that you've described, Deslauriers.
Other than that, AHL+ players like Brooks and Marody and Belpido, all 26.
MacEwen was a waiver claim, Seeler was a waiver claim, Sedlak a waiver claim.
I'm sure if there was a fast, skilled forward on waivers, they'd claim him too.

They have players who could turn out to be like that, if Ratcliffe continues to improve, if Wylie continues to improve, if Hogberg develops any offensive skills, etc. It's unlikely, but that's how teams end up with these guys, the light goes on for a previously marginal player (or they wouldn't be in the AHL for 3 or 4 seasons).

Has anyone in our organization heard of Physical Therapy?
The problem likely is a poor physical therapy plan coming from their health team, or otherwise a poor training program when healthy.

With the mantra of playing heavy so tremendously ingrained in the culture (lol) of this team, my bet is on the latter.

Training too intensely has hurt 2 players just this season

God DeAngelo is a moron.

He does this every game. He just wanders without a care, as his partner or a forward must cover the middle. He always grades as one of the worst defensive players for a reason. And no, despite Authentic narratives that he’s better than advertised there, he is in fact not.
